Linda's Story
Hi, classmates!
I left the Phoenix area in 1973, the day after my wedding, having finished my BA at ASU and my first year of teaching at Clarendon School. I got to teach 70 5th and 6th graders in '72-'73 with Angie Domini and Ann Neiwold. The first 9 years, while Peter was in the Coast Guard, we were stationed in New York City, Alameda, CA, Williamsburg/Yorktown VA, Juneau, AK, and Portsmouth, VA in that order. After the Coast Guard we lived in Albuquerque, NM while he was attending architecture school at UNM. For the past 22 years I was a Title-1 teacher in Placerville, CA - a beautiful, small town in the foothills of the Sierras, about half-way between Sacramento and Lake Tahoe. I retired at the end of the 2010-2011 school year and returned to Phoenix in August 2011. My folks are still here in Phoenix, but are struggling health-wise. My older sister, Judy, passed away suddenly in December 2009, my marriage was ending, and ...Expand for more
I felt this was where I was supposed to be. Since January 2012, I have been teaching part-time in the Deer Valley School District as a Title-1 math specialist for grades 3-6.
My two children, Brian (33) and Sarah (27), are in California. Brian is in the Sacramento area. He teaches art and PE, coaches basketball and plays the guitar. Sarah is a professional makeup artist and esthetician in LA.
Theater is still a passion for me. I've had the good fortune over the years to play such wonderful roles as Lady Macbeth, the Wicked Witch of the West in "Oz," M'Lynn in "Steel Magnolias," and a spunky old southern lady, Betty Meeks in "The Foreigner." One of these days it would be fun to audition for a play again.
Now that I live in the Phoenix area I would love to get involved in helping plan reunions and get-togethers. The Christmas concert choir reunions with Serge Huff have been a great way to stay connected to West High alums!
