Linda's Story

Born and raised in San Marcos! How lucky was I! This was because my dad, a Master Sergeant in the Air Force, was transferred to Camp Gary (after serving in the Philippines in World War II). He and my mother (J.E. and Stella Watson) fell in love with San Marcos, decided to stay and bought a home. I was born in 1947 and my brother, Kim, was born in 1949. After serving in the Korean Conflict (stationed in the Aleutian Islands in Alaska) and away from home for over a year, Dad left the military with 10 years of service and never considered moving anywhere again. I was just a little girl but I vividly remember waiting with my mother and brother for Dad's train to arrive at the San Marcos depot after he had been in Alaska for so long. And then the train arrived and there he was! He got off and I ran to him! I loved my parents, my little brother, our home, pets and my life growing up in this beautiful small town. I graduated from San Marcos High School (1965) and Southwest Texas State with a degree in business (1971). I worked as a bank examiner with the FDIC, traveling West Texas and New Mexico, in the 70's. Just went from one town and bank to the next. Was hardly ever in our base town of Odessa. This was so interesting and so much fun! Then I worked in Houston as a savings and loan examiner, field manager and supervisory agent for the Office Of Th...Expand for more
rift Supervision for 18 years. Retired in 1998. These two jobs resulted in lots of very enjoyable travel, mainly in Texas and New Mexico, Have also traveled to Washington DC, California, Florida, Maryland, Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana and Georgia for work, staff conferences and related schools, Thoroughly enjoyed these two jobs; the places I went and the people I met and worked with! Besides San Marcos, I have lived in League City, Denton , Minot (North Dakota), Greenville, Wylie, and Dallas. Married the very handsome Danny Wells from New Braunfels in 1980 and have lived in Houston since. Have two great kids. Both graduated from Texas State. Lisa is 31, married with a 4 month old girl (our first grandchild) and is a mental health case manager in Abilene. James is 26 and works at Sewell Cadillac here in Houston.. I love San Marcos, which I now refer to as San Marvelous, because it is! Got the name from James and his college buddies. I visit often. Have fond memories of the Rio Vista area where I grew up, the river and my family, friends, neighbors and high school classmates. I really miss my parents who have both passed away. Kim lives with his wife in a beautiful home on five acres in Kyle and recently retired from his tax business, Southside Tax Service. He has two grown daughters and one grandchild.
