Linda's Story

Life 1/2017. Time for an update. Lost my husband in 2012, shortly after our 50th wedding anniversary. Lived all 50 yrs in Sonoma Valley 40 miles or so north of SF. No one knew where Sonoma was when we moved here in 1961 and now the whole world visits. Two children, a son & daughter but, alas, no grandchildren. School I went to San Jose State after high school for a little over a year. I met my future husband, married and didn't finish college there. Later, I went to a junior college and got my AA degree in animal science which was very helpful with the registered cattle herd we had for 42 years. Workplace I retired in 1997 from a senior management position with a national medical billing firm. My husband and I then spent our time with the cattle, our job after "retirement". We enjoyed showing the cattle every year at the Sonoma County fair, Calif. State fair and Grand National in San Francisco. We've also shown at the National Western Livestock show in Denver and major breed shows in Reno. We took our bulls to bull sales and sold project show heifers and steers to junio...Expand for more
r 4-H and FFA kids. Having the cattle was a dream come true. Things change and the cattle business was sold. Time to develop new interests and pretty much create a new life after losing my husband. I take a class or two at the local JC every semester. Just finished my second year of Spanish which I hope to put to use volunteering in some literacy programs. After having Great Danes for 40+ years I now have Riley, my Goldenlabradoodle. We will be attending a therapy dog class next month so that is a new volunteer opportunity I'm looking forward to. I enjoy attending lectures, learning new things, concerts, plays, dining out, wine tasting, reading, cooking. Generally, keeping busy when I want to be or just relaxing if that is the plan for the day. I've had a great life. I married a wonderful man, have two terrific kids and have been fortunate to live in a beautiful place. I always wanted to have a ranch and animals in my life and I have done just that. I am grateful everyday for all I have been given and I'm looking forward to the new year, 2017, to see what it will bring.
