Lisa's Story

My story- As many of you know I joined the military after my junior year. Following graduation in '84, I spent a year in Texas and then Oklahoma working in the operating room, which I totally loved! I remained in the Army Reserves until 1989, married and started a family. I have two children, both grown now and taking their own journey through life. Aside from getting married and having children during those years following my Army life, I attended Cardinal Stritch, graduated in 1992 with my first nursing degree. I say first-because I have gone back ( to Concordia) to complete my BSN and Master's, and Grand Canyon for my Doctorate. If you all remember anything about me, it was that I made my own path and walked it. My family often teases- "So just how many degrees in Nursing do you need to get it right?" What can I say- I'm remedial :-). I went back into the Army in 1995, as a Commissioned Officer, a 2LT in the Nurse Corp. I am retired now (2014 at the rank of Major), have been deployed in response to the Global War on Terrorism, to Afghanistan in 2003-2004, along wit...Expand for more
h so many other missions. A very rewarding career! During my 26 + years, in the military, I have had the opportunity to travel- thanks to the Army! I have been on tours to Germany, Paraguay, Bolivia, of course Afghanistan and many places state side as well. Today, I am am retired. Although, many still refer to me as Major Pain, I'm not sure why, because it is not my last name :) . Anyway, my home address has always been in Wisconsin and that is where I am today. I have been a RN at St Joes Hospital- Milwaukee and held many positions there, from staff RN to Supervisior to Manager and Clinical Educator, to obtaining a Master’s in Nursing becoming a Nurse Practitioner; and now most recently, completed my doctorate. Now a DNP: Dr. Lisa! Crazy right! Current state- Living and Working in Eau Claire. Walking my path, giving it to God, enjoying my journey and looking forward to the next chapter of my life. There is a song "I hope you dance"- which is how I have lived my life, and I hope, how you have lived yours. Not taking anything sitting it out, but out there mixing it up!
