Lisa's Story
Life
I am currently working as a CPhT (certified pharmacy technician). I work at a long term care pharmacy that services nursing homes, assisted living facilities and group homes. I have two boys of my own, Matt (AGE 18) and Brian (AGE 16). My husband's name is Don Woodin and he has a son, Dylan (age 11) and he is a plumber and an alumni from Emmett O'Brien. He has his own business Pipeline Inc (so if anyone needs a good plumber!). We live in Oxford, CT. I hope anyone reading this and remembers me will send me a message to say hello.
2012 Update: I am still doing the same job in the same place but I am working on my bachelors degree in healthcare administration. My children are older, Matt is 24 now and living in California doing property management. My son Brian is 22 and a Petty Officer 3rd class in the Navy and so far stationed not too far to visit home every once in a while. Dylan is 17 and a senior at Oxford High School graduating as the class of 2013!
My husband still operates Pipeline Inc. but the economy is tough so right now I also work another job collecting medical record documentation for an insurance company. Life is busy but I enjoy going out as much as I can with friends and family. I am not the shy person you may have known me to be in high school (you may remember I was shyest girl in the high school yearbook). I recently received the Values in Action Award from my full time job for being a great employee!
What you may not have known about me was that I...Expand for more
grew up in a foster home my whole childhood with my sister Patty. Life was a bit rough as my foster mom was in her 60's when I was in high school and I was not allowed to do much. Senior year I was kicked out of my foster home because of the actions of someone I hardly knew. Some people may have had the idea that I was on drugs or pregnant but I was neither! I was homeless and wishing to just be able to finish high school. Because I was 18 in Feb 1986, she was not required to keep me. Thankfully things have changed in the foster/state child care system because the things I had to endure will hopefully never happen to other children now. I was homeless for 4 months and while I did not get to graduate with my friends and the classmates who I spent so much timewith. Now don't be sad for me because I did get my GED as soon as they allowed me to.
I write this to clear the air about what happened. Most people probably won't remember but I do and the humiliation of not graduating with my class has stayed with me all these years. I hope that this story is seen as a success story, not as a sad story. While life is not easy, we all have things that challenge our lives, my life is very successful because I choose to see it that way. I hope that if you are reading this story you get that message too! If you remember me in school please take the time to say hi to me sending me an email or sending me a message on here!
Take care, Lisa Blake Woodin
