Lisa's Story

Well we have done allot of moving since we were married in 1976. I will start with the last few years. Gary & I lived in Southern California from 1986 till 1995. We lived in the Mojave desert. Gary for those of you who did not know, he was an Air Traffic controller for the F.A.A. . We then moved to Alaska in 1995 and lived in Anchorage till 2002. While in Anchorage we were very involved with the American Legion. We then decided to move 2 days after his retirement to King Salmon Alaska. That was in 2002. He started to work as an Air Traffic Controller out there in King Salmon, Alaska. He then became the Manager out there. While out there we had learned allot of the alaskan native skills. He did allot of trapping and hunting & I had learned allot of crafts and skills. Some of which were, river grass basket weaving, ivory carving, antler carving, quilting, and continued my hand throwing pottery. While I was also out there I became a substitute teacher. I also taught in the native community center. I taught polar fleece blanket tieing. The community is a very small one. The only way in or out was on Alaska Air or Penn Air. Our foods had to be ordered either by phone or on the computer. We had brown bears or what some people may call grizzlies. But there,is a...Expand for more
very big difference. Brown bears live down by a river and eat salmon, and are most of the time larger. A grizzly is a mountain bear who eats roots and rodents or what ever they can. We lived right below Katmai National park. We lived on the true peninsula of Kenai. We were above Dutch harbor at the top. We had 3 children. 1 son & 2 girls. In which are all of course grown up. We moved in May 2006 to Sun Lakes, Arizona to a senior community. We lived there for a year and a half till December 2007. I did not feel we were ready for that as yet. So in January of 2008 we moved to Texas and bought 80 acres and started a cow calf beef operation. We love it very much. We both have been home through out the years. Gary is now the Manager out here at the tower at Texas State Technical College. We are enjoying life as we all should be at our age. We have been truely blessed through life and say thank you all the time. We still own our home in Arizona, and also this one here in Texas. So yes we are blessed. We also have 6 granchildren, in which we feel blessed even though we really don't see them as much as we would like to. So there is my story for now.. Of course there is more, but if I went on, then this would become more than a chapter in this somewhat Novel. LOL
