Lisa's Story
Life
I have been teaching English for the past twenty-two years for Dublin City Schools. I have my own condo with a beautiful garden that I work really hard on. I enjoy having summers off and usually spend lots of time at the pool. I don't have any kids unless you count the hundred I deal with every day at school. I love Columbus and am glad I ended up in Dublin.
School
I loved school from Greentown Elem. all the way through jr. high and graduation from Hoover. I had a lot of great teachers and a lot of fun friends with whom I should have stayed in better touch. My favorite memories from elementary school are working in the office and enjoying Girl Scouts and 4H. Junior High is a blur except for Mr. Knisely's and Mrs. Burnette's classes which I loved. I think those two teachers/classes were my inspiration to becoming a teacher. In high school, I remember just the fun stuff like chem lab and choir and the musicals. Of course the most fun stuff was going to lots of concerts and parties and hanging out with friends.
College
College was a huge learning experience in every way. I would go back and do it all again tomorrow if I could. I loved living in the dorms and being...Expand for more
a GoldenHeart for Sigma Phi Epsilon. I loved sharing my first apartment with three other girls and loved my grad. school year working for a professor and being the only girl in an apartment full of SigEp fraternity brothers. We had a blast and all of us made it through grad school and even earned degrees. That is a miracle with all the fun and late nights we had.
Workplace
After graduating with my Bachelor's, I was offered a graduate assistantship at BGSU in the reading department, so I stuck around at BG for another year working for the director of the BGSU Reading Clinic as a research and teaching assistant. At the end of that year, I had earned my Master's and gained a wealth of knowledge from the professors I worked with. I was offered a teaching job in Dublin, Ohio and have been there ever since. I have taught middle school reading and language arts at three different schools. Two of the schools were brand new when I worked there. It was fun to help open them. I have been active in the NEA and served as a rep. for my school and also for my district at the OEA Assembly several times. Starting in the 2011-20-12 school year, I will be a Reading Intervention Specialist.
