Life
Hello! I've been teaching Spanish for 17 years, the last 7 at a high school near Findlay, Ohio where I am also Co-Student Council Advisor. I attended BGSU for my freshman year of college, then transferred back to YSU before my sophomore year. I also attended the University of Salamanca in Spain (on a scholarship that I received from the YSU Spanish Club) and graduated from YSU in 1990 (Spanish major/ Psych. minor). After graduation I added an Education minor/ student teaching, etc. to obtain my teaching certification. I earned a Masters of Ed. degree (Bilingual Ed. emphasis) from the University of Findlay in 2005. (I attended from approx. 2003-2005). During my undergraduate degree (YSU), I worked at the YSU Language Lab and Carlisle's at the Eastwood Mall (which I hear has been closed for years now!), and then later at JCPenney's at the Southern Park Mall. I also spent a lot of time traveling back and forth to England during this time due to the fact that I had met and become engaged to someone from London, England. We met in Italy. He was on vacation and I was traveling through Europe (Portugal, Spain, France, Switzerland, and Italy) with my friend Karen Shellito right after we finished classes at the University of Salamanca. This lasted for a few years (and I racked up quite a few frequent flier miles in the process) until I realized that I just wasn't quite ready for marriage yet, and he just wasn't the one for me. Good thing... soon after I met Ron McIntosh in a class at YSU, and the rest is ... my life now, which is awesome! We currently live in a suburb of Toledo, but are planning to move back to Findlay (30 minutes south) within the next year or so to be closer to where I teach (which is also where our children go to school). I've been married to Ron since 1994. He graduated from YSU (where we met) and later earned his MBA from the University of Findlay. (We finished our Masters degrees at the same time and went through the same graduation ceremony at the University of Findlay... that was kind of cool.) He was an Assistant Store Manager and then a Store Manager at Lowe's Stores throughout NW Ohio (Findlay, Lima, Defiance, Perrysburg) for quite a few years. He decided to change his career direction after too many high stress years as a Store Manager with a really bad schedule (lots of evenings, weekends, and holidays). He is currently a Fiscal Services Coordinator for a division of the Northern Buckeye Education Council preparing to become a School Treasurer. We were married in Ocho Rios, Jamaica in December 1994. We have two amazing children, Savannah, who was born in March 1998, and Derek, born in January 2000. Derek is an awesome little artist, loves Legos, music, swimming, video games,...Expand for more
and reading (loves the Harry Potter books and any books by Roald Dahl). Savannah is also totally into art, is a Girl Scout, loves reading, swimming, playing with Legos, is in the gifted program at school, and is a member of MENSA (as of Feb. 2008). We also have an adorable (but very stubborn) little black Pug named Ziggy who joined our family in June 2006. (Ziggy has also become my personal running buddy, running a pretty fast mile with me almost every night.) We enjoy bike riding, going to the Toledo Zoo, our church, local parks, the Stranahan Theater, the local YMCA, museums, taking our dog for walks, and traveling whenever we have time. We love Chicago (saw "Wicked" there, it was awesome!!!), Niagara Falls (Canadian side), Put In Bay, Hershey, PA, Atlantic City, NJ, and Mystic Seaport/ Mystic, CT for short getaways... and we've been to Jamaica, England, France & Spain for longer trips. I also LOVE going to the theater with my friends. We have been going as a group to dinner and then to the Stranahan to see some great shows (Spamalot, Cirque Dreams, Lion King, Evita, Oliver, Annie, etc.). I know that I was only at Girard a short time (started there in 10th grade, spent my junior year in Costa Rica as a Rotary Club Exchange Student, and returned in 12th grade) but I do have some fond memories of my brief time there... I still remember that Yolanda Lipari was my very first friend at Girard. I also became friends with Marisa Irilli later that first year, and I got to know Gretchen Mohn a little better my senior year, etc. I wanted to say hello to all of you even though we have lost touch through the years. I really did appreciate having you as friends during my brief time at Girard. And, a big hello out to anyone else who reads this who might remember me from the two years I was there or from McDonald, where I attended from K-9th grade. Also, a big hello to Karen Shellito (who I still keep in touch with), Mary Noble, and Gabby Blazina from McDonald High School.
Update: December 6, 2008... I just ran my first 5K today, the Jingle Bell Run in Findlay! It was about 12 degrees, I think (not sure what it was with wind chill). I finished in 34.48 minutes, which for me was great. My goal was simply to run the whole thing, no walking and I did that, but I was still happy with my time. Yea! :-)
Update: April 26, 2009, I ran my second 5K... this time I talked my sister into running it with me. We ran it in 34.27 (Tam) and 34.29 (me)... not the fasted by any means but we ran the whole thing, no walking, and we were pretty pleased with ourselves. Yea!!! :-)
The next one we're running is in April 2010... and we're both trying to talk our husbands into running it with us... we'll see how that goes. :-)
