Lisa's Story
Lisa is from Union, South Carolina, and was raised in the Air Force. She started high school in Texas and then the family was transferred to Alaska. Her dad retired and landed at J'ville -- where Lisa ended her final year of high school.
After high school, Lisa joined the Army and was stationed in SC and Germany as a Telecommunications Center Operator. After coming down on Drill Status, Lisa said "screw this, i'm short" and ended her time with the Army. Also, she was really super crazy about her French boyfriend, Jacques, and eventually got engaged. Fortunately, Lisa came to her senses just in the nick of time and ran away and joined the Marine Corps. After going through basic training AGAIN, she was stationed at Quantico, VA and was a newspaper reporter for the Quantico Sentry - eventually becoming the assistant editor of the paper.
One glorious summer evening, while hanging at SkinniFatz, she saw the cutest thing (Randy) she'd ever seen in her life and said, "that's for ME!" Turned out he was a newly stationed Marine at Quantico AND he was also joining the staff at the Quantico Sentry. Lisa an...Expand for more
d Randy had several good years together and was very devastated when the love of her life died from stomach cancer.
Lisa, by then, was a good government employee working for FEMA -- no jokes! I love FEMA and our true mission. Not this DHS crap we've been grafted into with the creation of DHS. Lisa, however, as happens with emergency responders, got burned out, and went to DOT where she worked in Pipeline Safety for 15 years. With Hurricane Katrina being the catastrophic event that it was, FEMA assets/resources were depleted and Lisa answered the call for other federal agencies to assist with the event. The desire to help during a disaster resurfaced and reengaged Lisa in emergency management.
Lisa is still with FEMA working as a Continuity Specialist and is an exercise planner and instructs continuity courses throughout the nation and enjoys her job. However, Dec. 31, 2018 is the BIG RETIRMENT DAY and she is really looking forward to that. Although she's lived in the Northern Virginia area for 32 years, she is going to retire to North Carolina and do absolutely nothing.
