Lisa's Story
Hi everyone! I've had a pretty active life and still going strong! I was in the military for 14 1/2 years and then medically retired. I was stationed at Tinker AFB for most of my career with a short 3 year stint spent at RAF Molesworth (303rd Ground Defense Sq) and RAF Alconbury (10th Mission Support Sq)in England (UK).
I'm married and have a blended family with two kids of my own and three stepkids. My husband and I have been married 12 years still madly in love. He is also retired from the Air Force after 20 years of service. We are empty nesters as no kids live in our home anymore and we delight in visits from our 6 year old grandson. Awesome!
We live near Tacoma, Washington and love it here. Nowhere have I lived where the ocean is 5-10 miles away and the mountains a hop, jump, and a skip away. I see Mt. Ranier from my home regularly and awed by such an amazing creation!
After the military I worked in private securty as chief operations officer. Bored, I moved on to be a 9-1-1 operator for the King County Sheriff's Office. This was not for me so I moved on to work at my church in children's ministry. I now work in youth ministry which is where I belong and I totally love it! The kids are awesome and I thank God for always giving me the right words to say to these kids when needed. Other than that, I just love spending time with them.

More about me:
I always wanted to be a nun when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a nutty idea. As it turns out, they were right.
I like to relax by spending time reading my Bible. I also like to go to the beach and just lay in the sun. Spending quiet time with my hubby is my personal fave! Blowing off steam??? Well I don't get upset much, but just listening to music and being by myself really helps.
I have lived in many places in my lifetime. It's amazing to me when I think about it!
Japan - 5 years
Oklahoma - about 20 years
New York - 1 year
Philippines - 4 years
Georgia - 1 year
England (UK) - 3 years
California - 1 year
Georgia - 1 year
Washington State - 8 years
The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my grandmother, because I loved the stories she shared with me about her life.
I don't really have any obsessions, but do like to play my ba...Expand for more
ss guitar and do craft projects. Gardening is also at the top of my list of hobbies.
My biggest surprise in life is how successful I've been in just about everything I've done. I'm not bragging cause I've done many different things. I find it easy to learn most things and to at least try some things even if it doesn't work out. It's the only way to discover if it's something I'd like to continue doing. God has blessed me with so many talents and gifts and I've finally found where I am called to serve. I work with students in 6th - 12th grades and I love it. It's hard work and takes up much of my time, but I admit it is worth it!
If I could improve my home, I'd remodel the back deck and add on a a larger deck. My dream home would be large and located in Oklahoma.
I've learned from my kids that it is difficult to be a parent. Parents are not handed a manual on how to raise kids when they are born. It's all totally a learning experience. Parents learn as their children grow. I've learned what an enabler is and I have been that. I've also learned to let go and let the kids stumble, fall, pick themselves up, and move on. It's hard to sit on the sidelines, but worth it if you can stay strong. I've learned to accept that I've done the best I can as a parent and that kids grow up and make their own mistakes. I know that it's okay to listen and that my advice is not always wanted.
I share my home with my husband and miniature fox terrier, which I find extremely awesome.
In 10 years, I hope to be retired. I'm going to get there by helping my husband meet his goals for retirement.
My first job was at Crystals Pizza Palace, OKC, where I got paid minimum wage to bus tables and work in the game room. What I remember most about it is how much fun it was to work there. At the age of 15/16, life was easy, fun, and exciting. Today; however, I find many students at the age of 15/16 too busy to have fun. They actually keep calendars to fit the fun in. Which is why I love the job I do now! I get to help plan fun events, lead youth group and Sunday school, and facilitate an all girls small group. Anything I can do to help students be a kid and have fun, while encouraging them to have a stronger relationship with the Lord, is so worth being a servant of God and youth ministry! :)
