Lisa's Story

Life After living in Southern Oregon for 13 years, I moved to just outside Oklahoma City 2 days after the 30th reunion! And WOW do I love it! It's pure horse country here, unlike anything I've ever seen. Before that? Well, I traipsed up and down and all around California, mostly Northern, wherever there was a horse racetrack, I was there! I was an owner, pony girl, assistant trainer among other things in nearly 20 years in the industry. Then I moved back to Oregon, went to college at 40 (and a WAY better student; I actually made honor roll several times!!). I helped Laura Ormsby move out to Oklahoma in April 2005, and shortly after returning home, I simultaneously discovered I had experienced a blood clot which had self-dissolved but was hospitalized with another and that the gorgeous piece of property across the street from Laurie was for sale! Well, sometimes it takes instances like that to make you wake up and say "life is too damn short" and so we bought it and ordered a huge custom modular home. We sold our place in Oregon in 4 days (great market!) and paid for our place and new home with cash. Not telling you this to brag but to tell you that the west coast market is WAY ridiculous and you get SO much for your money out here. I could not be happier. I take care of mom and she's happy here too. I shipped two young horses out here but have since bought a shetland pony (my first love is ponies) and a really nice AQHA gelding at our local weekly livestock auction. Just this week Laurie and I...Expand for more
have visited the World AQHA Show, and nearly every weekend there is more than one horse-related venue we have to decide on to participate in. Well, I am of course, in hog heaven! We plan on opening a tack shop in our little town of Jones. Jones is in the heart of rural OKC (we actually live in OKC city limits) and is literally a Main Street kind of town. For horse country, it's amazing that tack shops are NOT on every corner of Oklahoma and we're going to offer all styles of riding gear, some horsie bling bling, horse decor, gifts, show horse clothing, embroidery and blanket repair/cleaning. We cannot wait! We'll keep you updated on this new venture of ours. UPDATE: Started painting 2/6/06 and have moved in just about everything, now learning the new software, cash register, and sales tax !ARRGGHHH! Plan to officially open by 2/20/06. Laurie and I also buy and sell gentle family horses and ponies. True, there are a ton of horses out there but one horse does not fit all and people do not mind paying a good price for a solid, gentle, safe horse. Right up our alley! It's also great not having to work for someone else, going to a "real job". So I am divorced, and have never had kids (I always say that all my kids have 4 legs, which is true), but am like an aunt to Laurie's daughter Kaity. I have been blessed with fairly good health, a wonderful family (the rest of whom remains in southern Oregon), and great friends. Please drop me a line here at Classmates, I'd love to hear from you.
