Lisa's Story
Life
I have been living in El Paso since I was 2. After highschool, I married young and started a family. I continued going to college while raising 4 children and Great Danes. I have stayed in the northeast, which I think is El Paso's "hidden secret".
School
I attended Blessed Sacrament School for 8 years, then I was thrown into the public school system and went to Andress. There were some very good teachers like Mr. Fifer, Mr. Moore, Ms. Gillett, but there were some very bad ones also. I was very skinny back then, very seldom did I wear dresses, but on one DECA dress-up day I was advised to wear a dress. Two guys in my class were following me down a hallway, when they mentioned that I had two strings hanging from my dress. Then they started laughing and said,"Oh, they're your legs!" My confidence was shot. My day came when years later I saw those same 2 guys at a wedding and they were both weighing in in the 300+ range. Life sure can teach us cruel lessons.
College
I attended UTEP for 4 years. I majored in Elemen...Expand for more
tary Education with a minor in math. During those years, I carpooled with my brother and neighbors because back in those days, money was tight. As for fond memories from college, I can remember the best times were socializing and eating the fantastic steak sandwiches at the SUB on campus. The other memory was finding the closest (free) parking space near campus, not knowing if your car was going to be there after class. Now those famous spots are taken up by a 7/11 or Pizza Hut. REMEMBER THOSE DAYS?
Workplace
I started working at McDonald's back in highschool and remembered my DECA teacher, Mr. Fifer, telling me never to make an employee mad at you because they would do awful things to your food. Boy, have I heard that a lot over the years. So over the years I tried not to make too many people angry at me. After 4 years of college, I started teaching at a military school near post. After 28 years there, I recently moved to a new school near my house. I'm very content, love my job, and see retirement in the near future.
