Lisa's Story

Workplace I joined the Federal Bureau of Prisons in November of 1988 as a correctional officer at the penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana. Now, with just five years until I can retire, I am looking forward to a second career in something different ... maybe more enjoyable. Military I joined the military in October 1982, largely because I knew that I needed to make a clean break of my mothe...Expand for more
r's "apron strings". (If I'd stayed near home after high school, I'd probably be flipping burgers right now!) I didn't even know how to start a washing machine when I arrived at Ft. McClellan (AL) for basic training. I was surprised that I actually made it through basic training. I was assigned to Ft. Devens (MA) after basic & AIT. Not good for a girl who detests the snow & cold temps!
