Lisa K's Story
Life
Well, so much for my planting roots in Florida! I'm in the process of moving to Richmond, VA for that job in Disaster Management, as I've been hired as the Training and Outreach Coordinator for Citizen Corps for the Virginia Dept of Emergency Management and Public Safety. Woo hoo!!!!!!! And, I now have the most amazing man in my life. :)

I have moved back to St. Pete to be with my elderly parents. It's nice to be home, though it is definitely be different. I think I'm finally ready to plant some roots and settle down, and St. Pete (or Clearwater) is probably where I'll do it. I'm now actively pursuing a job in my field of Disaster Management, and I'd also like to adjunct teach at St. Pete College.
As always, life will be full, no matter where I live.

School
What can I say - being at Dixie was a mixed blessing for me. I was able to fulfill a lifelong dream to be a majorette, yet many other things that happened made my life miserable while there. I was thankful to have the option to go to my school in Indiana.
I will never forget some of the people I've met through Dixie.
My time at Morton was great, even though I never fully fit in - I was always the 'girl from Florida'. It's okay. I made some unbelievable friends, and had one of the greatest teachers there. I was very thankful for the opportunity to attend a school so different than Dixie Hollins....Expand for more
College
Well, let's see. I began at Purdue Calumet for 3 1/2 years (had to stop when dad lost his job), then ended up at Saint Petersburg Junior College for quite a few years while I was getting the necessary background to study Meteorology at Florida State. Well, I attended a National Hurricane Conference in 1992, picked up a flyer, looked at it in 1994, and decided to make the move to the University of North Texas to finally finish my undergrad degree, but in Disaster Management! After that, I knew I was still not done, and I applied for and got accepted to the graduate program at The Ohio State University to finally study meteorology. I left there in 2000.
My latest educational adventure is to finish my masters in Homeland Security (or National Security) and then get my PhD in the same field. I want to be able to teach it someday.
Now in 2009 I'm actively pursuing a career in teaching as I've now become certificate eligible in 3-4 areas for both middle school and high school. I actually WANT to teach HS Math. I'm using it as a springboard into college teaching.
My other passion in life is CERT - Community Emergency Response Team. I'm on the leadership team for Lealman CERT, with some of the greatest people I've ever met. I've been able to do two hurricane conference presentations through our organization. Additionally, I'm part of the Disaster International Relief Team through Calvary Chapel St Petersburg. It's amazing.
