Lisa's Story
As some of you know, Lance and I have moved back to Nevada. It's been about 20 years. Strange how you can find yourself right back where you pretty much started. But it's a good new beginning here. Lance has completely changed his field of work and loves it. So I guess he has finally discovered what he wanted to be when he grew up. LOL! I'm still working on that. I've done many different things from flying the friendly skies to retail management. I took 9 years off to stay at home with my kids and that was the best thing I could have done. It helped refresh myself and I didn't rob myself of time with my kids. Now that they are a bit older I am starting to do more for "myself". Face it, being a mom and a wife, your life no longer belongs to you. LOL! Since moving back to Nevada just last year, we have had it really quite interesting. First we had to live in a hotel (5 in one room) for 2 weeks while looking for a rental. That was TORTURE!!!! If you know me, I have to have my space, otherwise I can get rather cranky. It took a while to sell our house in St. Louis, but once we did, we were finally able to get out of the rental and move into a house. 2 days after Christmas actually. The home we bought is a nice home...but lots of work is ...Expand for more
needed. The changes will come in time. ....Back to "doing for myself". About four months ago I was appointed a seat on Nevada's Planning Commission. I am excited about that and hope that I can make a difference in some way being there. I am also getting involved in a group and it working to improve the entire Vercon County area. You locals will probably hear more about this in the near future. And lastly, about a month ago I have acquired my first PAYING job (lol) at the Chamber of Commerce. That's has been really enjoyable too and the ladies I work with are fantastic. Needless to say, it's great being around adults again! What has been best about moving back??? Being around our family and old friends. Seeing the faces of those I knew has been most comforting in transitioning myself back into the small town after living most of my time away in bigger cities. NYC, San Diego, and St. Louis. The thing I miss the most from the where we've been (aside from the friends we left) are Lowes/Home Depot. I am a junkie to DIY home improvement and it's a great challenge to get the things done on my house and get all my landscaping needs without them....well, one thing is for certain when you are in a smaller town...you learn to be more resourceful!
