Lisa's Story

Life I am the youngest of six and did most of my growing -up in the suburbs of Chicago. In 1979 my parents decided to move and build a new home in Plainfield Il. I was twelve years old and found the move to be difficult. I can still rememeber that first week going to Junior High and playing flag football for the first time.I was clocked right under the chin and managed to get a couple of teeth badley chipped. Later, the firey red head did apologize, this would come years later in high school. Years at good old Plainfield were filled with many good times being a Pom Pon girl. Always ejoying performing at the basketball and especially the football games. I enjoyed selling magazine subscription drive for the year book and managed to sell the most year after year. I will continue this later...more to come Workplace I graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in Journalism and a minor in Dance back in 1987. During my junior year a took a semester off and accepted an internship at Walt Disney World in Orlando. This decision plays a significant role several years down the road. After graduation I moved back home and worked for six months as a sales associate at a sign company. Then I was asked to go to work for WJTW Radio in Jo...Expand for more
liet. I spent two years there until I was offered a senior sales position with a radio station in Florida. Ocala , Florida to be exact.I was ready for a change and was familiar with Florida. It was another two years at Z93 FM and then onto WDIZ in Orlando. Finally a major market! But after two years I was rapidily loosing interest and felt like my creativity was lost in a career where you were as good as your last sale. The management thought so too and gave me a nice going away severance check. It was the best thing that ever happened to me.For the next year I collected unemployement and worked part time for an old friend who owned a consignment shop. It was at this time I realized how great it was to be your own boss.I also rediscovered my Love of vintage clothing. I enjoyed everything about it the history, quality, and the sheer beauty. In 1995 I opened Orlando Vintage Clothing Co. I consider myself to be a Lifestlye enterprenuar. I have a wonderful business that I have built over the past nine years. An establishment that is thriving and a part of the community with the abilty to create a life that is full of opportunity and endless possibities. I truly have blessed.I still dress funky as some of you may remember and you should see my closets!
