Lisa's Story

I pulled out my high school year book to compare "then" pictures of those of you who have their photos posted. It's amazing to see how much we have all changed since then. You know what I realized, we look damn good! I have been a member of Classmates for a few years now but for some reason I have found myself viewing it more in the last few months. I think it has something to do with the approach of my 30 year reunion. I can not believe that 30 years have come and gone!!! They say age is just a number but I think that some twenty year old came up with that expression.  Seriously, I feel better today than I ever have. I wouldn't mind going back to those "number" days but in reality I find the expression "The older you get the wiser you are" to be so true and I wouldn't want to change that for anything.   After high school I worked a little bit and then relocated to the Ft. Lauderdale area in Florida . I was there for two years and I got myself into all kinds of trouble, so I moved back home to Massachusetts . I worked at a couple of different jobs and then I found a job with Verizon, New England Telephone at that time, and then it became Bell Atlantic, and then we were Nynex, and and now Verizon, at least for the moment. I now have been with the company for 25 years, and along with the 30 year high school reunion it's making me feel like an old fart. I am a central office switch technician.  I work on people's lines or features (voice mail, caller ID,etc) to see why they are not working properly. It can boring at times, but mostly I enjoy my job.  That's what counts. I am lucky enough to have five weeks of vacation a year, and I travel when I can. I have traveled here and there in our country over the years, but I always make it a point to go to the West coast of Florida for a couple of weeks every winter. Spring and summer are my favorite seasons. The fall is nice enough, but it reminds me that winter is around the corner which is my least favorite season. In the summer I enjoy gardening, fishing, outdoor concerts, outdoor exercises and basking in the warmth of the sun, of course now I use plenty of sunscreen. I love heading to Salisbury and hanging out at the beach, so much that for the last co...Expand for more
uple of summers I have camped there. Although after spending ten days in the rain this past summer I almost ended my camping days forever. I had my camper on Craigslist.org the day after I came home from that trip! I felt like a drowned rat.  I swore off camping forever. It was going to be hotels for me from then on. I still have the camper because it was too late in the season for me to find someone who would have wanted to buy it.  Which was just as well, because now that time has passed and I am dry again, I have been thinking I'll give it one more try.   I didn't attend college after I graduated from high school, so in the year 2000 at the age of forty I enrolled part time at Middlesex Community College, where I received my Associates degree. Studying was hard at first after being out of school for some twenty odd years. I had to learn to learn again. In the end, it was well worth the hard work.   I love to go out dancing on Saturday night and I was dabbling with country line dancing for a bit but it was too hard on my back. (There's that age thing again). Giving up country line dancing didn't matter that much though, because I like dancing to classic rock better anyway. I always try to find things to keep me busy and currently I am taking yoga classes and I have signed up for a fiction writing course through an Adult Ed program. I have no idea what possessed me to do that because I don't know a thing about writing never mind fiction writing. I figured it was something different and it seemed interesting, so why not try it. So far I like it.   I'm lucky to have a large loving family and many wonderful friends. I have had some ups and downs over the years. I'm happy to say though, that I have had many more ups than downs. Thank you, God!   I'm looking forward to seeing all of you at our high school reunion this year. I like the fact that it's at the Lowell brewery. We will be able to mingle more there than we would have been able to if this event was being held at a function hall somewhere. Can you believe I was considered shy in high school and you wouldn't hardly hear a peep out of me. Now, you can't get me to stop peeping. Change of time is good in it's own way. See you in November!
