Lisa's Story

It's hard to know what to say about 25 years that will fit in a little text box, except maybe "what a long, strange trip it's been..." *grin* The professional part is easy, so I'll do that first. From Putnam City I went to college, first the University of Missouri and then OSU. Went to grad school for about a billion years and finished a Piled Higher and Deeper degree in psychology at the University of Alabama (and I've got the student loans to prove it!). I came back to Oklahoma for a couple of years to finish up my training. I taught at Baylor in Waco for a couple of years, but didn't really "fit" there. One morning I was having an "I can do something else for a living" kind of tantrum, made a impulsive phone call, and ended up in a different career. I was an editor for a college publishing company for five years. When my company got eaten in the merger and acquisition wars between the big publishing companies, most of the Fort Worth office was canned, which was scary at the time, but it turned out to be one of the best things that ever happened to me. I got back into teaching, this time at Texas Wesleyan University, and have been there for six years. I feel like I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing. isgustingly happy in my job, warping young minds in my classes and doing research. As far as my personal life goes, I was married for six years and divorced in 1996, no kids. I've been more-or-less single in the 12 years since, with several serious relationships interspersed with playing the field. I've learned so much about people and about myself along the way. I love kids, but am fine with not having them myself. My three nieces have grown into gorgeous, hilarious, kind people, and I am so proud of them. With my job I also feel like I have 100 new kids every semester! My dad, brother, and sister still live in Oklahoma City, and Dad frequently reminds me that I don't visit nearly often enough! My mom died in 1998, which was a life-changing event for us all. I miss her every day. What else? Hmm...I bought my first little house last year, which has been a wonderful (and at times, expensive) adventure. I have a fur child, Dorothy, a rescued-shelter-dog-turned-canine-princess. I still have an unwritten book in me. Maybe by the 50th reunion I'll have copies of it to hand out. When I got the note from Cindy Dehne about the reunion, I had this attack of curiosity about how everybody was doing, so feel free to message me if you remember me. I'd love to hear from you!
