Lisa's Story

I was Lisa Robin Powell in my High School Years. I was in Adv. Drama and Modern Dance. I played the piano in my drama parts. I was in the musical Oliver as Old Sally. I took Marine Biology with W.S. Rogers. I had Mr. Shailer for Spanish. I LOVED drama with Mrs. McMenamin? (need to check the spelling) and I also loved modern dance class; I continued it in junior college--I still use some of the exercises for pain management now. :) So many years have passed...I have now been happily married for 20 years to my husband David. We have two children, a daughter and son, ages 17 and 15 years old. We live with two rescued Dobermans and a beautiful koi pond full of koi. I graduated from CSULB with a B.A. in Music, and received my first lever harp as a graduation gift. I have gone on to play professionally on the lever harp and perform for weddings as well as play and sing for Ren. Faires. In my 40's I was given my first pedal harp by my husband, and have been enjoying learning to play it. I did become a General Music Teacher and taught 2 year-olds through 6th graders at a private school. I had passed my CBEST and thought about going through finishing my credential, but with the adoption of our 2 children and the passing of my Mom due to Melanoma God decided it was best for me to be a stay at home mom for a while. It was also apparent that it was time to be a caregiver to the seniors in our family...Expand for more
as well. During this time I've been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Lupus, R.A., O.A., etc.; so if you have recently gotten any of these diagnosis I can share information with you if you need it! Fibromyalgia is very difficult to get the diagnosis on, and I probably started mine back in childhood. Feel free to ask me about Autism as well. Last year I played therapeutic harp music for my father during his time in hospice while living with us and also for his transition, which was literally a life transforming experience for me, confirming my call to become a therapeutic musician as people from two hospitals who had already heard me play for my father had requested me to be. I am currently studying to become a Certified Clinical Musician to play therapeutic harp music bedside for hospital and hospice patients. Right now while I'm training I am volunteering with my harp at a local hospital and hospice and hope to be interning with them very soon. Each new day brings more hope as I see how much music has to offer in treating pain management, stress management, stabilization of vital signs, agitation, and bringing comfort and solace to patients and their families, as well as staff members. It can make a world of difference in turning a sterile environment into a more welcoming, comfortable and healing one; and I am proud to be a part of it. ♪♫♥ Peace be with you all.
