Lisa's Story

Oh, all right. I'll post some of what I've been up to for the past, um, how many years? Good Lord. How did I get to be this old? I just heard Lewis Black on the comedy radio channel here, & he said he wants to live forever. Well, Lew, I think I'm half-way there. I spent one year at Towson, and was sick with strep throat 5 times, & mono for 2 months. I met Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull, Jesse Colin Young of the Youngbloods (sat on his lap in a VW bug during a fire alarm at the U of MD's Cole Field House) and traveled a little with The Who. The next year I moved to Mexico, where I lived for 1.5 years. LOVED it. I modeled for a photographer there, & went to Acapulco twice. If you haven't been, you're not missing anything. One of our pictures sold, so I was on a calender. Never saw it; don't know what it was for. I was also in a brochure for a hotel in SMdeA. I attended the Instituto Allende, where I worked on my writing and studied under a Pulitzer Prize winner. Very cool. Then I moved to Cholula, Puebla, land of the hot sauce and Talavera tile. I attended la Universidad de las Americas there, and worked on an archaeological site on the campus when they were digging for a new building. That area was then known as the largest archaeological site in Meso-America. We found a lot of shards and nothing else, but where they were digging across campus for married student housing they very un-scientifically uncovered an ancient skeleton. Before they could excavate, kids smashed the skeleton with rocks. Our professor cried. While at UdelA, I modeled for another photographer, one of our deans. While I was modeling, my boyfriend was sleeping with the photographer's wife. We did have a pretty good photographic show, which was covered by local and national newspapers. I...Expand for more
also served as the Features Editor of the university's newspaper, then as Editor-in-Chief. I dated a different dean, and got invited to a lot of the university's parties, much to the displeasure of his wife. Met a guy and moved to Indiana with him after 3 years in Mexico. From there we came to CO, so he could get his pilot's license. We planned to go on to Alaska to homestead; he wanted to be a bush pilot, and I would write my Great American Novel. After we broke up, I learned that he'd had two aircraft seized, flying dope in from Colombia. So I stayed in Colorado. Met a cop who left his wife, and we got married in 1975. I had our daughter in 1979, and the cop and I divorced somewhere along the line. Then we remarried, and redivorced. Got a job planning international conferences for an international nonprofit group. Went to San Juan, Puerto Rico twice; Hawaii 3 times; Bogota, Colombia; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Budapest, Hungary; and Paris. Then I got fired, and moved to Cincinnati with a guy I met at the conference in Hawaii. Lived there happily for 2.5 years, then moved back to CO when I became a grandmother to TJ, now 17. Best thing in my life since my daughter, Meghan. So, now I'm in CO to stay, for now. Met a great guy, Dave, a college professor and former college director, who before that served 27 years in the Navy, retiring as an officer. In June it'll be 14 years married. Meanwhile, my daughter got married and had my darling granddaughter, Shea, now 10. In February of this year (2015), they moved to CA, and broke my heart. And that's all I'm gonna say about that. (Thank you, Forrest Gump.) Dave and I live in a lovely big house in a suburb of Denver, and his mother lives with us, too. We all get along wonderfully, and I lived happily ever after.
