Lisa's Story

Hi All! I went to Bennington, then SUNY, moved to Carmel, CA, then went to Monterey Peninsula Junior College, got accepted at Berkley in fine arts, ditched the college life, got married to my first husband, a Naval officer and physical oceanographer. We attended the Defense Language Institue for Spanish training together. I then went with him to Cartagena, Colombia for 4 years, Point Barrow, Alaska for two, Washington, D.C. for 5, then arrived in Montana in 1982. (This first marriage ended in 1984. Second marriage in 1992 didn't last...great romance though!) During my first marriage in 1973, Alethea Rebecca, my lovely daughter was born while we on duty in Cartagena, Colombia. She was in Ashland, Oregon, but returned to Montana with her husband Eric and has two beautiful children Ella Grace 4,and Isaac River 2. They are now in Whitefish. I was a professional picture framer, fine artist (still am) and had my own shops/galleries until 2004 when some health problems dealt me a bit of a blow. It took me 4 years of soul searching to make a move out of Montana in the late summer of 2008 for a break. I was seeking a new territory for work and personal renewal. That whole experience was amazing, but the job market was, well, as you all know.....! I spent 7 months as a Nanny for two darling kids south of Portland in West Linn and then took a gallery position in Sisters, Oregon. Fun spot. Things really changed again! I have since returned to Montana. I arrived in early November of 2009 after the economy further slowed down the art market. I am living with dear friends in Columbia Falls near Glacier National Park. io in the reception area of my friend's chiropractic clinic/elegant home where I am living and enjoying life. My Mom, though frail, is still going at 85 and is in Elizabethtown, PA with my wonderful (and also frail) step-Dad. Mari is in Ajo, AZ being a wild and crazy artist and teaching yoga. Rika (Fredie now) is married to Paul Martin (He is with GE, soon to retire) and is in Salt Lake. She is an awesome personal trainer and well known for health work in Utah. Her son Claude Moore Bailey IV (Bear) is in Tucson, Arizona. Fredie and Paul plan to move to Tucson. Joe and his wife Holly are holding down the Schaus homestead in Charlton. Joe is with GE to this day, (seriously creative fellow) and has two boys: Simon, just finished college, and Eli is next in line in that category. Holly, Joe's wife and sidekick, has Parkinson's disease but is doing well. She is lovely, also a great creative, and has such a remarkable spirit. Chris and Helen are in Hillsboro, OR. Helen is an equine specialist, and Chris is with Triquint Semi-Conductor as a top engineer. Their son Oliver is in college in Spokane and Hannah has just graduated from Liberty High. She is an aspiring horsewoman and is constantly winning every top ribbon. Life continues to be fun here in Montana. Friends are plentiful and income is not, but I don't much care at this point. Hiking, biking, and projects in the community keep me hopping. That's about it folks. I hope things change for the better. This social/economic/political climate is wearing on everyone, but it's bound to make us all better people in the long run. Cheerio! Keep looking up, take care, and check in!!! Lisa
