Lois's Story
When I left FHS I spent one year at New Paltz NY. I could not stand the 'Hippie' culture that seemed to take over the campus. I got a clerical job with NY Telephone in Albany and 6 months later it moved to Brooklyn, working in retro active payroll, then later in benefits, and then vouchers. I was living at home in Freeport, taking classes at night in Accounting at Adelphi Bus. School and then my mom died in Aug '73, and I had a transfer to Massapequa, and started working in their Computer Operations. I married in Jan 74, and in Dec 75 moved to Colorado. We have been here ever since, now 34 1/2 years. Our son Joshua and his wife Danielle reside in Tucson. He is at Air Safety Intl. as an instructor of pilots. We have had Bob's mom living with us since 1997 when she had a stroke.
I have worked at Nobel Sysco, Coors, Inventory Auditors, and Ameristar Casino.
I have been a Computer Operator, production worker, seamstress in wardrobe,
and an executive assistant to an insurance General Manager.
For pets we have had a Great Dane, a lost and found Afghan, a lost and kept terrier mutt, a Great Dane/German Shepherd, and 3 past cats and 2 present cats, and when Josh was between 4th and 8th grades we had 2 Guinea pigs, that were later sold to another youngster. He and Danielle married in 2002 at ages 20 and 18. They then attended Auburn U. in Alabama and graduated in Dec 2006, which is when my picture was from. Eight months later I had unexpected surgery that removed a large Ovarian tumor, and then I did 6 cycles of Chemotherapy over 5 months finishing up at Thanksgiving. By spring of 2008 my hair was growing back. So far my check ups have been clear. But as you can see I still need to lose weight. It's been hovering just a bit under 200 and I sure would rather it be below 150. I neeed to walk and walk and walk and walk.
So since I just got laid off from the 4 year casino seamstress job two days ago, I will be walking a whole lot more now. Where we live we want to get our workshop/garage/hot tub room built that we have been trying to do for the past 7 years. We need the funds to do it. Hopefully something will come through this year. I do not usually spend much time watching TV but there are a few shows we like to catch on Sci Fi Friday nights and the BBC Dr. Who on Saturdays
Well, when I do get to watch, my favorite shows have been anything with Optimistic Science Fiction ie, Star Trek, Star Gate, any sleuthing ie, CSI, Medium, Mentalist, retro detective programs, some Dr shows like House and the old ER. I don't like the 'reality' shows nor sitcoms.
Right now I have got to get to bed, even though I am not working. I want to get the third bedroom decluttered tomorrow so I can change it into my sewing room.
Of course it's going to take more than a day, probably a whole month.
Perhaps since I lost this job I may get a chance to visit in July and show up at the 40th year reunion. Just pray for us that God makes a way and the money shows up to build the garage and let me get away for awhile.
This is Lois Dratch (Albrecht) if you wish to get in touch with me, please do.
I would love to hear how you are all doing. This forum will not let me leave any personal info so please find a way to communicate. Thanks.

Slight Update Sept 9,2012 -- Still no jobs here, and unemployment ran out at the end of last year. we are barely getting by, but my health is okay. At a Gilpin County Cardio-Plus Health Fair yesterday I got my cholesterol, glucose, CRP, PAD, and BMI numbers checked and got a mammogram, and an EKG all done for close to free($30.00). Hows that for savings??? My weight is still an issue. My lipid/Triglyceride/cholesterol numbers have improved. So far so good. Now if I could only get Hubby to the next fair - we would have an idea on how he is doing.. Why are so many men so doctor-o-phobic ???
Thank heavens our son, Josh, is not like that. He and Danielle are now in Houston TX, one year already, after 2 years in Tucson AZ. He now flies jets for Cockrell Resources and Danielle has been very happy with the position she has with an architectural firm that does school building alterations and re constructions. The really good news is t...Expand for more
hat by Mother's Day next year they will be parents, and we will be grandparents. We will be 61 then and they will be nearly 29 and 31. Sonia will be 92 next month. She is doing okay too. We have had 2 cats with us since Christmas of 2008, Smokey and Mia. They are about 7 & 8 now. They are great at helping to keep Hubby's blood
pressure low, and calm. Except when they do something wrong. Then he chases them with the water sprayer bottle till they get the message. At least they are now not as wet they used to get. They cuddle up with him, on the couch, so they have no hard feelings for all those impromptu showers. No garage built yet, so no Doggie. I did not get to the 40th - Perhaps I'll make it to the 45th??? I hope and pray you all are doing okay. Till next time.
Updating again...
Well now it is Jan 28th 2018. Just celebrated our 44th Anniversary. We have 2 Grands, almost ages 5 & 3, a boy & a girl, Josh & Danielle have moved back to the Denver area, & Danielle has full architecture certifications, and Josh is with a commercial airliner now. We still have not yet built that garage workshop complex, but are still hoping to do so. I did not get to the 45th either, Maybe the 50th ?? Still no doggie. Still have the 2 cats, they are now 13.5 and 14.5 - the older one has a possible intestinal tumor, we are trying to treat by adding turmeric & kefir to his food. He had 5 teeth removed last summer. He is on a soft food diet now, with an appetite enhancer to increase his desire to eat foods. Trying to get him to regain some of the weight he lost last year. I am now 10 years post cancer issues. I do daily day care for 2 other elders in the community. Keeps me busy and gets me tired out. Good Night for now....
Time for a new update March 1st 2019..... I did not mention that Sonia had passed away on March 9th of 2013, and that Smokey had passed away last year on Feb 17, 2018.... Sonia had been 92 1/2 and Smokey was about 15 1/2.....I am now 12 years past the cancer surgery and chemo treatments. We are still plugging away at living in the mountains. we cut wood & split several times each month to heat the house with the fire stove, so that we do not use up too much propane for heat. I still work at helping elders to stay in their own homes. Now I am looking at using my SS money to keep us afloat. Hubby's last paycheck was in middle of December. They say however that it won't start until June. I've only been earning a few hundred per month myself, so we really need it now. Honestly, if anyone out there is flush with funds you do not know what to do with, I would not mind a few big ones coming this way, I would be grateful, as we could get caught up on mortgage and credit card payments. My small wages only covers electric, communications, groceries & gas.... God Bless you all. I hope someday to go to one of those famous reunions.
It is now January 31st 2024, so I think it is time to do another update.
We have survived the 'Plandemic' that happened to all humans starting back in the fall of 2019 and came to the US in spring of 2020. We have celebrated our 50th Anniversary this past Saturday. Since we had a recent 12 inch snowfall we stayed home. Agreed it was safest thing for us. Perhaps we will enjoy a dinner out tomorrow before another snow comes in this weekend. Over the passed year I quit working outside of our home. It seemed more important to keep each other company and safe as we have reached the years of our seventh decade. We took a few weeks and visited Florida in late September. Rented a van, a Chrysler Pacifica to try it out. Very nice car. Really liked all of the safety features. Lane correction is wonderful. Automatic closing doors are very helpful. Hopefully we may own one before the year ends. Anyhow we managed to visit the unimproved piece of property that Hubby's parents had bought way back in 1962. We are thinking of moving there and developing it into our retirement property. It will take time to do that. At least we would get away from our 9000' high altitude home & maybe be able to survive without so much winter weather to deal with anymore. I will try to keep you posted as to how this unfolds this coming year. Good Night for now.
