Lonnie's Story

After HS I went to nursing school and soon after married Carl. After a few years of working as a registered nurse, I felt the need to advance my career so I returned to Hahnemann University and became a Physician Assistant. I work in emergency medicine and love it. Recently, I began doing medical volunteer work in The Gambia, West Africa and started my own foundation DelMed Aid for Gambia. We provide medical volunteers and equipment to the Sulayman Junkung General Hospital. The work has been very rewarding. My years at IHS (academically speaking) were for the most part a waist of my time. I meet some very nice people (and some not so nice ones) a few teachers whom I'm fond of, and some who failed me miserably. In general the education was poor at best. My life, my education began the day I left...Friday, June 13th 1986....Expand for more
Like myself, I suspect many faceless students are still today walking the halls of Interboro with amazing academic potential but "just exist" and it's tragic. There was no system in place to recognize students who were attempting to achieve academic success and help them thrive. This is the laziness and failure of our public school systems to change over time to meet the modern learning needs of todays society. To quote Bill Gates, "Our high schools were designed 50 years ago to meet the needs of another age." "Until we design them to meet the needs of this century, we will keep limiting, even ruining, the lives of millions of Americans every year." Well said. I could go on and on but genuinely I hope you're all doing really well. I wish you the best. Stay healthy...in this day and age you can't afford not to! ~Lonnie
