Loren's Story
Life
-----After graduating from HHS in 1956, I attended Cornell College for a year, and then transferred to the University of Iowa, majoring in radio, tv, film. I received the Bachelors degree in 1960; worked for just 9 months as an announcer at KJML-FM (classical music) in Sacramento, CA; and as a summer replacement announcer at KGLO (radio & tv) in Mason City, IA.
-----After that, I was hired as a filmmaker by a small, in-house production unit at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale, IL). While with SIU Film Production, I was married (Denice) and had two daughters (Marcie and Julie). In 68-69, I took a 1-year leave-of-absense to study at Ohio State (communications) where I received an MA. A few years after returning to SIU, the film unit was dissolved, and I tried freelancing for about a year. Fortunate...Expand for more
ly, SIU rehired me -- but this time, to teach in the Department of Cinema and Photography.
-----When my daughters were both off on their own, my wife decided she wanted to do likewise. So after 29 years of marriage, we were divorced. About a year later, though, I met Lisa; and we were married in 1994. She and I now live in Carbondale in a quiet subdivision overlooking a lovely little lake. Lisa's 9 years younger than I am, so she continues to work (as a very successful real estate agent); but I retired in the fall of 2002.
-----In my spare time now, I do some volunteer work for our Unitarian Fellowship, and I sometimes work as a set designer for our local community theater group, the Jackson County Stage Company. But mostly, I'm just a bum -- looking forward to the upcoming 50th reunion of our Class of '56.
