Loretta's Story
Life
I have been married twice. I am a widow with five grown children six grand children and two great grandchildren,and many step grands.
After graduating from Phillips in June, 1957, I worked for
the Chicago Park District and paid my way through George Williams College. I was assigned to teach Physical Ed. at Phillips in Jan. 1966. In 1974, I became a Guidance Counselor but continued to teach modern dance, tap, ballet,etc. After two master's degrees and administration courses, I passed the
principal's exam in 1988. I was blessed to become the only
female administrator of a Driver Education Program in the
U.S. I also taught part time at Northeastern Il. Univ. and
Northwestern Univ. In 1992 I decided that I wanted to be with kids again, so I became Assistant Principal at South Shore H.S. In 1995 My friend asked for help at Simeon, so

In June 1999 I retired with 35 years of service with the Chicago Public Schools,then earned a doctorate degree and co-authored a book. I continue to travel all over the world.
I am busier than ever as Chairperson Emerita of the Wendell Phillips
Hall of Fame Committee,Treasurer of the Centennial Committee, Founder/President of the Hall-Martin
Foundation, Inc.,My foundation has awarded scholarships to Phillips graduates since 1982. Outside of Phillips, I am active with: Delta Sigma Theta Sorority,Inc. and with my
ministry "Newness of Life" at Trinity United Church of Christ.I perform at the Chicago Theater and Millineum Park in the musical, Serendipity. You can usually see me on "Can I Step With You"on Channel 19 on Sunday nights at 8:30 and Mondays at 3:30.
