Lori's Story
I am currently living in and loving Scottsdale,Arizona. What a
different place than Northern California. I never thought that I would truly enjoy the desert, but I have learned to appreciate and notice the change of season, yes there are seasonal changes here.
Wonderful out of this world lightning & rain storms in August, and breathtaking sunsets consisting of colors I have never even dreamed of, and hotter than heck heat four to five months out of the year. People always say it's a dry heat..well that's true, but so is a 350 degree oven, you don't stick your head in it. I still consider the Bay my home, and miss it everyday.
We do have wild desert animals here. There have been wild coyotes sitting at my front door (they want my toy poodle), very large owls (they want my poodle) bobcats, mountain lions, javelina's (wild pigs) which I recently had between eight and eleven on my front yard, and lots of rabbits. On the Indian Reservation a few miles away, there is a herd of wild horses, all amazing.
Haven't come head on with a diamondback yet, the snake variety at least;I have had recently two baby snakes in my house, one in the laundry room and one in the main hall. Gardening I did come in close contact with a six foot, about three inch round snake in my backyard. I tried to beat him to death, my daughter saw me and thought that was an interesting way to garden. She had no idea I was trying to kill a snake...he won...he's still out there...and I don't garden in that section that much anymore. Update, gardener found him. The snake is gone, I won, and now I can garden wherever I want.......it was as long as I am tall.
I have renewed my interest in golf here and play best when the temperature rises above 110 degrees in the shade. At the end of August my handicap is the lowest. I have also renewed my interest in Tennis and play regularly as the community I live in is resort like, with a lot of "winter residents", and tennis courts on every corner.
I have been married for 18 years and have two girls 13 and 15, that remind me I am payin' for my raisin'. I must have really been hell on wheels. These girls keep me on my toes.
I was an Oakland Raider cheerleader shortly after High School, joined the working world mostly focusing on sales and marketing in the Electronic Industry in the Silicon Valley.
After my oldest daughter was born, I stopped working for pay and often miss my "life"...however, "l...Expand for more
ife" would be rather sad without the humor children add. Of course it would also be quiet and hassle free. These days I now understand why mothers in the wild eat their young.
My husband was a Senior Vice President with an international Electronics Company. This often gives me the opportunity to travel the world with him. I have been to Switzerland, Spain, Gibraltar, Paris, Tahiti, Grand Cayman, Morea, Mexico, Hawaii, London, Dubai and most recently survived the Kona Quake on the island of Kona, and saw the amazing natural wonder of hot molten lava running into the sea at night. He recently retired as of the first of the year 1/09...My wings have seriously been clipped.
I am on the executive committee of Scottsdale Supporters of the Gifted, Lobbyist at the Scottsdale School Board, and am the Vice President of the Board of Directors at the community where I live. I teach Yoga, and am a property manager...I also am a travel agent with World Ventures...I wear a lot of hats.........have even thought of running for State Representative. My family wont hear of it.
My youngest daughter is a state champion gymnast who has recently quit gymnastics. She has just shared with me that she misses it, but she likes being a kid too. Kaley is now in competitive cheer with a nationally known team, she never does anything small. My oldest enjoys dance classes, and was on the basket ball team. She and I also share the same Trainer at our gym. Colby is now more interested in her high school social life. Someone named Nate.
I volunteer with my brother and his organization Hitland, that among other activities in and around California, produces and directs various programs in San Quentin Prison. It humbles me and takes my breath away each time I go into the oldest and most notorious prison, and am shoulder to shoulder with the prisoners on the yard. I feel somewhat sad, knowing that I will be leaving by the end of the day, and some of the prisoners I have gotten to know will die there.
I have taken under my wing a few soldiers in Iraq that are experts in what they do and are very special forces, special to me and to their commanders. I do what I can for them whenever I can.
OK, so it's heating up here again, 110,112,113,111 today and should be a balmy 115 this weekend........I am going to have to go to big surf, a fake beach and wave pool, that sounds like the ocean, but the breeze smells like chlorine. Only in Arizona..
