Wow my story... I was very quiet in school didn't have many friends just a few real close friends. I attended boces for nurses aide in my senior year. I had various dress shop, electronics wear-house, private duty nursing. I began working for NYS at Cental Islip Psychiatric center in 1983 with the down sizing and consolidation of LI's 3 centers we as a whole unit bldg. moved to Kings Park grounds. You could never imagine a psych center could be on such beautiful grounds. Lunch hours spent on the sound. Just enough peace and tranquility to get through the rest of the day, so perfect. In 1996 plans for another hugh consolidation with Kings park and Pilgrim. With this layoffs were a possibility. The state began offering transfer opportunities through out the state and cross agencies. I have friends who after 20 yrs transferred to DMV, I however transferred to OMRDD Broome ddso I received a position in Oneonta, Otsego county 140 or so miles away. It is so pretty up here. The mountains, hills, wildlife, fishing (although I really do miss salt water fishing) camping. Life is good. I was never a night person didn't care for the bars I preferred the beach or parks during the day, sunrise to sunset. I raise some of my food, catch some, hunt some, grow some. It is so much more rewarding. My family .... I was married several times I know sounds terrible I married the same man twice. We really did try. To this day we are still great friends we have 2 children together and he loves my other two. never leaves them out of anything. Joseph Conlan he graduated Sachem in 1978.
