Lori's Story
Life
My Spouse
I was first introduced to my husband, Don, at my girlfriend's (Tina) house in the spring of 1979. Don was a friend of Tina's boyfriend (both men were in the Navy) and Tina was setting Don up on a blind date with her sister. A group of about 8 people all went bowling. The sister and Don didn't make a love connection but when Don and I accidently met at the Mariner's Club (In Bremerton) a couple of weeks later it was an instant connection that has kept our relationship fired up ever since! We were married in the spring of 1980. We lived a nomadic Navy life until Don's retirement from the service in 2003. He's currently employed with the Department of Defense. In 2005 we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in Orlando Florida, where we spent our honeymoon oh, so long ago!
My Pets
My daughter found a cat in our neighborhood. No one claimed her so we took her in. It turned out some people down the street left her to roam while they were on vacation. The owners said we could keep her. She's beautiful, with gray, medium length hair and green eyes. She was one year old when we adopted her in 1996. She was already named Lucy so we kept that name.
A few months after we got the cat my husband and son wanted a dog. We saw a photo in the paper for Pet of the Week at the animal shelter that fit our specifications. We had been there a couple of times already searching for the right dog for us. My husband specifically wanted a German Shepard or/mix, around one year old. The dog's name, coincidentally, was also Lucy, so I thought that was a good sign. When ...Expand for more
we went to the shelter to see the dog, Lucy was the only one NOT barking her head off, so we thought she was a keeper. My husband thought both pets with the same name was too confusing so we drew names and "Lady" won. The dog doesn't like the cat, so they live in seperate parts of the house! Both have been exceptional pets.
My Kids
We have a daughter, Mischel, born December 1982. She works in an office at a Toyz Hauler Manufacturer about 10 minutes from our house. Mischel still lives at home and currently is unattached.
We have a son, Matt, who was born February 1985. He lived in Seattle for a year after he graduated H.S. but has since returned home. He is romantically involved at this time. Matt's currently employed at a nearby hospital transporting patients and also attends the community college full time. His goal is to become a CHP officer.
We've been fortunate enough to have two decent kids that we're very proud of. I was just glad they didn't follow the path of my own high school years! ;-)
My Job
I'm an Instructional Assistant in the field of Special Education. I work in a K/1 grade class of TMH (Trainable Mentally Handicapped). I've been in the field of special ed since my daughter was in preschool, which was around 1987 and enjoy it immensely. Because of my husband's military career I've had the experience of several different school districts and worked in many areas of special education. It has definitely been a blessing in my life. It had the added benefit of allowing me to be home when my own kids are on school vacations and holidays, etc.
