Lori's Story
Life
I am married with 2 ten year old boys. I am a licensed clinical social worker. I have worked with severe trauma and psychiatric patients in the emergency room of a local trauma center for the past 15 years. My other job is international adoption, which has taken me to Vietnam, Hong Kong and to Guatemala (next month!). I enjoy running and outdoor activities with my kids. My husband is a musician by night, "computer nerd" by day! We currently live in Sacramento with our kids and 90 pound boxer dog named Clifford.
School
If you remember me, you may recall that I did not attend Carlmont High at all! After eighth grade, I was dragged, kicking and screaming, to San Mateo by my parents. I attended Hillsdale High, and hated every minute of it. I always missed my Ralston friends, so signed up here under Carlmont in the hopes of reconnecting with old junior high pals.
College
After high school, I went to Chico State for 2 years, then U.C. Santa Cr...Expand for more
uz. I graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology. I worked for the next 3 years before returning for my Master's degree. I graduated with my Master's in Social Work from Sacramento State in 1985. I was licensed in 1987, and have been a "working-in-the-trenches" social worker ever since!
Workplace
For the past 15 years I have worked as a crisis social worker at the U.C.Davis Medical Center, in their Emergency Department. I work with severe trauma patients, psychiatric patients, and abuse patients. High stress, high volume and lots of sad stuff. I balance it all by working half-time at an international adoption agency, managing their education program and doing assessments of the families wanting to adopt. I love my adoption work, which has taken me to Vietnam, Hong Kong, and next month, to Guatemala, visiting orphanages and the beautiful children who live there. It's great work and I feel so fortunate to have found my "niche" in life!
