ert Noyes, born 1390, Wiltshire, England. Cousin John Noyes martyred at the stake in Laxfield, 1557. James and Nicholas Noyes (brothers) sailed to the US in 1633 on the Mary & John, and were among the first families to establish and settle what became Newbury, Massachusetts (spelled Newberry in1600's). Nicholas Noyes spent time as the chaplain with troops in Connecticut during King Philip's War in 1675-76. Rev. Nicholas Noyes was involved (sadly) in the Salem Witch Trials (Sarah Good). In 1776, cousin Peter Noyes served directly under George Washington. As of the 1790 census, there were 20 Noyes 'heads of household' residing in Newbury. David Noyes served in Civil War (Union), my grandfather Wm.A.Noyes served in WW I (lost leg on the front), my father James L. Noyes served in WW II.".
