Lorie's Story

Glad to be back in Coos Bay! I have two daughters (Linnae, 33 and Rebecca, 28) and one granddaughter (love being a grandma!!), I homeschooled both girls through 12th grade. Linnae is now in Austin, TX, teaching harp and piano and Rebecca lives nearby in Coquille and is an excellent massage therapist. :) After high school, I spent a semester at OSU, but decided to return to Switzerland (I was an AFS summer student to Switzerland in 1970), where I worked in a hospital as an aide in Labor and Delivery. Now THAT was fun!! I spent 7 months working at the hospital, then spent three months as a student at L'Abri, a Christian school/community, just over the border from Switzerland into France. When I returned to the States, I began my journey to become a teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, graduating from OCE (now WOU) in the summer of 1977. I worked for the Southern Oregon ESD teaching a self-contained classroom in Grants Pass from 1977 until 1981, at which time I married James Kraemer. We lived in Cave Junction until 1985; moved to Applegate, had our first daughter in 1986, then moved to northern Idaho in the spring of 198...Expand for more
7. James worked for the Forest Service until 1991 when we went full time with our native plant nursery, operating from our home. Rebecca made her appearance at that time, so the girls grew up helping their dad grow lots and lots of little plants! We enjoyed cross country skiing right from our back porch, as well as sledding down the hill behind the house. We had a huge garden and lots of wildlife passing through our 15 acres. After 33 years of marriage though, James and I have gone our separate ways. I retired in 2018 from working at South Coast ESD as a .teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing, but I still keep quite busy with various volunteering opportunities. I've also discovered a great love for international folk dancing, as well as contra dancing. Thankful to have opportunities for both here in the area. Another new passion is kayaking! Always something to keep one busy, fit and content. It is great being back in the 'Bay area'. I finally found my little "peace " of earth, outside of town a ways and completed the construction of my little cottage home in May 2017. Now, landscaping!! Life is good, truly! (4/16/20)
