Lorraine's Story

After high school I earned an Associates Degree and then worked in a Medical office for 22 years. After that I worked as a cashier at various stores, Old Navy, Noah's, Kohls. Needed a change from the drama of medicine and the doctors I worked with. I am currently at home after a near fatal auto accident in 2002. Don't ask me what happened, I don't remember a thing. I am very happily married to a great guy, Nick. We have a beautiful Dalmatian named Lucy, who is so lovable. Everyone in Plainfield knows her, she is sooooo friendly. My son is turning 27 in September. That just can't be!! Love to hear from others... If I could do something different I would have stayed at SCSU and graduated with a BS degree in either in education or some type of medical field before hurrying into my first marriage. In my younger days I would have worked harder toward getting into the Firettes or Fletcher Raiders. I didn't know that was open to me being from another town. I remember when I was a young girl always wanting to be a baton twirler and march in parades. The band music just excited me so much. Jewett City Schools did not have any bands or music programs outside the schools. Then the Fire Department sponsored a new Drum & Bugle Corps and I jumped at the chance. I new all about the Firettes and Fletcher Raiders in Norwich and the Surfers in New London and couldn't wait to join. The time I had in Drum Corps was great. I didn't even mind the practices a few nights a week for a few hours a night. I loved the uniforms, the parades, and competing in Drum Corps Competitions. To me it was exciting and really built my confidence in myself. Make a lot of friends from other Drum Corps. too. If our high school had a band back then I would have joined, but unfortunately we weren't lucky enough to have a band. I envy the high schools around here now that have bands and compete. My absolute old song is "Old Time Rock n Roll". I could up and start dancing to that anytime. Boosts my mood, too! I often wonder what happened to the teachers I really liked and the friends I hung out with in high school. Once in a while I see one of you, but unfortunately everyone is so busy we lose touch again. One thing that has not changed since I was in high school is that I still love to chit chat. So if you are hesitant to contant me, don't be. Hope to hear from all you!! 9/10/2010 I have an update for you. We have added another Dalmatian to our family. Right now he is 14 weeks old, but we got him at 8 weeks. Big adjustment since we haven't h...Expand for more
ad a puppy around since Lucy 5 years ago.. Lucy and the puppy, who we named "Tino" get along reall well. House training is progressing.....forgot what it was like! Tino is named after retired NY Yankee first baseman Tino Martinez. As you might have guessed we are Yankee fans. Look under my PHOTOS and you will see pictures of everyone. They are very similar in their spots and personalities! Great dogs to own! Being a Drum Major in a Drum & Bugle Corps. Had some of the best times of my life and met a lot of new friends from other Drum Corps. I would love to get in touch with these people and walk down memory lane, but I don't know how to do it. Any suggestions? My oldest friend is Kathy Keegan now Walsh. We met in St. Mary school, Jewett City. She went to Lisbon Central for a while but we met up again at Griswold High. We/ve kept in touch ever since. She is now living in Winter Haven, FL loving the heat. We still e-mail and call and keep in touch. I miss not seeing her. I share my home with my husband Nick, Dalmatians Lucy and Tino , which I find wonderful. I lived in a dorm at SCSU after graduation from high school. My roommate never stopped talking, but almost slept through a fire drill one night. I remember yelling at her and poking her to get up. Sound sleeper! I remember the food at the campus cafeteria was fantastic and I was amazed that all you had to do was present your picture ID and you could eat all you wanted! That was back in the days when I was very thin and walked everywhere on campus. The fire alarm going off by the way was caused when the guys dorm next door pulled our alarm. It was cold and snowing that night. Thanks a lot guys. At Halloween everyone in the dorms dressed up for supper and I remember a huge cauldron in the lobby smoking like witches brew. I was the Great pumpkin and a friend from another flood dresssed up as Linus. We attached ourselves together with paper link. Great effect with dry ice! At Christmas time we all had a Secret Santa in our dorm. We would leave little treats and gifts in stockings on our doors. It was fun The teacher I would like to see again from High School would be Mr. Jones, my algebra I and geometry teacher. He was so kind and good to me. The subjects were like greek to me and I never would have made it to college without his help. I will never forget all the help he gave me. Thanks Mr. Jones!!. If anyone has contact with him after all these years, please pass the Thank You on from Lorraine Leroux. After all these years he will have no idea whom I am!!
