Lorraine's Story

Life I have been living in Anchorage, Alaska since August 1988 and been happily married for 21 years last Valentines Day (2012),(1st and only time.) My husband Pete has worked for Cummins N.W., up here, for the last 35 years. (Remember the "Big C" on the Renton "S" curves?...must've been fate!). Pete started with Cummins in California while he was still going to high school, and transferred to Anchorage in 1977. He is one of the premier experts in arctic weather modifications for the diesel Cummins engines, huge village generators, and marine engines (on fishing vessels) as well. He does ALOT of traveling, ALL over this great state, to ensure that the small, remote villages will receive uninterupted power. (You should hear the stories!) I am blessed to have Pete's son, my stepson, Chris in my life; he is now 32, living and working in Phoenix, AZ and I've known him since the tender age of 10. He has a great job with the city of Phoenix and has purchased his 1st home. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments. He married Aimee Shoulders in January 2010, in Vegas, at an Elvis chapel, by an Elvis impersonator, and everyone had a blast!. As for our other children...we currently have a 1 year old female cat, an 8 year old male cat, that think their dogs, a 6 year old female chihuahua and an old BlueFront Amazon parrot. I have just celebrated my 4th anniversary with the company I am the Bookkeeper for, TTT Environmental, LLC. I work for wonderful people and hope to for many years to come. I finally found "my nitch"! It's about freaking time! We also have a 20 year old Blue Front Amazon Parrot, as you can see in my recent photo. We had lost our 23 year old Malacan Cockatoo and was approached by a neighbor that asked if we'd be interested in adopting, "Yeahoo", the bird. He's definately a Momma's boy and is one of the most interactive birds I've ever had the pleasure of caring for. HE'S AN ABSOLUTE HOOT!!! Pete and I bought our new home 7 years ago, 4th of July, and are having a great time making it our own. In the "warmer" months that they call summer up here...I'm working non-stop in my many flower and vegetable gardens and Pete is in charge of the lawn...which does not mean that I don't mow either. The bizarre differance of our summers up here are...I frequently find myself doing yard work until midnight'ish...That's about the time Pete reminds me that it's time to come in. I started a new job the beginning of the year. FINALLY, a job that I have nothing to complain about; I'...Expand for more
m happy every day! And that makes my husband very happy too! The company is an environmental testing supply rental and retail store named TTT Environmental & Instrumentation. It is owned by a younger couple that are absolutely wonderful. We are moving to a bigger facility the 23rd of June and will have lots more room to work and grow in. TTT is pretty much one of a kind up here and represents many instrumentation companies for the entire west coast. I'm considered Admin. / Sales, but help out where ever needed...and that's what makes it so fun and interesting. I'm also reuniting with former customers from 10-13 years ago when I was working in environmental testing laboratories. I feel blessed that I have the positive work environment that I've been looking for, for at least forever! Since graduation, I attended Central Washington State College for just 1 year...met my best girlfriend in the world (my roommate from Tacoma), went on to work at the Edgewater Inn for a couple of years, worked in Accounts Payable for Nordstrom, downtown Seattle, for 11 years; then transferred to the Anchorage Nordstrom store and was the Regional (AK) shoe cleric for all shoe buyers. From there, I chose to pursue Veterinary Reception for 5 years; then Administrative Assistant and Hazardous Sample Control Supervisor in 2 different environmental testing laboratories, then 4 years as Alaska Branch Manager for my brothers Seattle based Asbestos and Lead Consulting Firm. My sister Karen and I are nationally board certified Asbestos Analysts, Air Monitors, Project Managers and Overseers and Building Inspectors...but having that kind of authority in "a man's world" is very wearing and exhausting...SO...I decided to get out of management and do something that makes me feel like I'm helping others...to whatever extent. I worked for a local Veterinary Hospital for 2 years, then a CPA firm for 1.5 years. I worked for a matchmaking firm for about 5 weeks as their bookeeper until I found my current, and hopefully my last job. As I said, I've finally found "a home" and work for, and with, very positive people...and boy do we need that in this day and age. I absolutely love the weather and seasons up here...you just haven't lived until you watch a moose hang out in your back yard! Being ONE and in-tune with the elements and nature up here is a very special privledge. I hope and pray that all of you and yours are well; God Bless you one and all. P.S. I have Greg Pankow to thank for helping me remember, from which we all came.
