School
I was blessed to have a number of teacher along the way who took a personal interest in me........at Sedgefield Elem in Newport News , it was Mrs Pirkle ( she could have doubled for Barbie) in the third grade....Mrs Pirkle loved plays and taught us things way beyond the normal curriculum ......who could forget Jay Conley as a young Amadeus Mozart ( in fourth grade Mrs Rowell made him recite "Jes Before Christmas" while clothed in overalls and a straw hat).....remember when Mrs Pirkle kissed Keith Brooks on Leap Day........At South Morrison, although a stern taskmaster , Mrs Barron was a loving and gifted instructor who demanded the best from us.......In sixth grade Mr Barnes ( that redheaded mensch) taught us science at a college level and danced with us at recess ( he had a hip motion that was reminiscent of Tom Jones ) while Mr Conway told us many a tale........When I moved to Georgia, a number of my teachers took a personal interest in me and prodded me when the turbulence of home life distracted me from the academic path.....Mme Rosa Rozelle was patient when I tested her......Mr Loyd made me laugh and encouraged me to apply at Emory and spent many hours discussing the merits of writers like John Updike........Mr Campanelli was a good teacher but still have nightmares about drawing all those maps and the sounds of yardsticks snapping .........Mr Southerland was indulgent of my tendencies to take over every class discussion when he was not telling me to stop harassing the boys ( Bill Pate and Bob Doty were willing participants in the repartee) .......and even though I was never actually in her class, Ms Lorrain was a good friend and an inspiration.......Betty Rodgers spent many hours working with me after school so that I might grasp some of the more abstract elements of Calculus.......and one hot summer in Newport News , Mr Ryan was my driver's ed teacher and referred to me as the "corona kid".......there were others who helped and inspired me to stretch intellectually beyond the parameters of my working class upbringing and I am grateful to all ...Expand for more

Workplace
Worked for Prupac ( p and c subsidiary of Prudential) from 1978 to 1994 in various offices around the country .Career began at Century Center . During my tenure with Pru, I earned the professional designations - cpcu, clu, acs and took a number of FlMI exams.I did the cookie baking ( actually cupcake sales were big in Jersey) soccer mom thing from 94 until the demise of my marriage. Since relocating back to Atlanta , I worked first at WFG ( obtaining a 6/63/variable license) then spent some time in the mortgage business. Resumed my education online. Have done some modeling, extra work and a good bit of promotional work - . When the baby ( heading to ninth grade - fall 2007) goes off to college , expect to resume a fulltime career but until then parenting duties are my priority ( particularly since Philip - my ex and a Shamrock alumnus - is living in Jersey where he started a now thriving insurance business ) . 2017 update - married to another shamrock alumnus Michael Haithcock and am a fulltime student at an awesome Christian University in Abilene Texas - Hardin Simmons . One more year and assuming a good score on my LSAT - off to Law School. Current and long running joke - will I receive a paycheck as a lawyer before I receive social security. Oldest offspring living in Portland Oregon (and yes it is just as it is depicted on Portlandia) , Emory is married and finally made me a grandma ( see my pics) - although his Ga Tech degree is in Industrial Engineering, he is some kind of IT whiz with a firm called Intelligrated . Zachary is living near Asheville and recently completely licensing requirements to become a P and C agent. Allison after completing her undergrad at Ksu ( she was accepted into UGA but did not want to go to a big school) is hard at work on her masters at NYU. My awesome stepson David , like Emory a Ga Tech alumnus, is a dentist practicing in Woodstock . Took up running a couple of years ago- have run a number of races - including four marathons.. We don't really run - it is limping and whining and if we finish the 26 in under 6 hours - we are pretty happy. ......2020 UPDATE - Allison finished her Masters at NYU and is applying to various PHD programs while she interns at Langone Hospital......Zach is living in Denver now and is in the family businesss (haha-insurance)- commercial underwriting.......I started law school in August at Texas Tech - Guns Up- and expect to be sleep deprived for the next three years - God Bless Coffee
2022 update : coming down the home stretch in law school - one more semester and then the bar. Zach is still in Denver but now he is a commercial underwriter with Truist. Alice (as she prefers) did complete her masters at NYU and had an internship at Langone but the pandemic forced her out of NY and she ended up working at Emory. Her boss there ( a neurologist with an impressive cv) lured her to NJ and she is now a long covid researcher at Rutgers. She plans to get her Phd - so proud of her. And we are excited because the handsome successful stepson has thrown out the metaphorical black book and is getting married in July in Oxford Ms. His lovely fiancee is a native - in fact her grandpa is Jimmy Lear who is an all - american and was big stuff at Ole Miss. We adore her and hope this happy event leads to more grandbabies . I adore my little rosebud Ellie but she is six and this Gigi would love more grandchild to cherish,
