My current age is 38. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be happily married and rich. I was so completely wrong.
My first job was at Commodore John Rodgers Elementary School in Baltimore, where I got paid 21,000 to teach. What I remember most about it is I qualified for a special loan when I bought my house because I was considered low-income. This was in 1992. It still amazes me that a public school teacher's pay is so pitiful .
