Birthday: December 9, 19xx
Following JHS Graduation:
New Your University B. Ch. E 1965
NYU MS in Chemical Engineering 1967
Taught Chem. E. labs in graduate school.
Esso Engineering Company, Exxon Chemical Company working in Process Design and Chemical Plant startups worldwide. 1967 - 1995
Met my terrific wife Darlene at Esso in 1967 and she is also a retired Chemical Engineer, 1999. Has her own consulting business in Control Engineering Technology. Together we have 66+ years with Mother Oil and loved our jobs...until the end. Lots of energy there. :)
We lived in Normandie/Paris France for 5 years, Delft, Holland for 5 years, Milano, Italy for 1 year. Other Living assignments in Florham Park, New Jersey, Kansas City, Kansas, Baton Rouge, LA (twice), finishing up in Houston. Traveled most industrialized countries for work. Never thought a New York boy would end up in Houston (how do you say culture shock nicely)
Taught Process Design Engineering for 5 years.
Loved my job and traveling with family.
PS Funny story, You all know that ExxonM has the Tiger as it's symbol. The name of my wife's company was DCAT (Dee-Cat) and her logo is the Lion. We all know that the lion is the queen of the jungle. lol
School Story:
I am now 6'5" big and strong but I used to get beat up in the gym locker room by guys in leather jackets. lol
Nickname: Big Lou G.
Still can't climb a rope Mr. Rubin, but played some basketball and football in college. I wish dodgeball would have been an inter-school sport: great fun (even before the movie)
Remember a busload of Beavers going to Madison Square Garden for JHS Basketball Playoffs. One of the cheerleaders joked: "Why are we going to The Garden; to see the flowers?" ...Expand for more
She really impressed me, even with bad humour.
Mr. Greenfield taught speech class and was advisor to the stage technicians of which I was co-captain with Irv Boim. Mr. G was a wonderful man. In Mr. G's speech class, whenever I gave a speech, I would sweat profusely and my palms were so wet, that the index card notes were wet too. Barbara Sinreich asked me if I enjoyed the shower. I was devastated by the blonde beauty :)
Working back stage, I remember all the shows, musicals, the choir/chorus and all the talented people in them. My buddy Ted Dalaku was one of them. The stage experience allowed me to moonlight for a short time at City Center, backstage on sound and lighting. BIG bucks! What a nice journey from the left brain to the right brain.
Squeeked by Mrs. Farber's Calculus with a D. It was a gift! She encouraged me to stay the course in the sciences. Ace'd calculus the next year at NYU, and all my engineering courses. Without Mrs. Farber, my whole life would have changed. Talk about the importance of teacher impact on a life.
Does anyone else remember PS 173 in Fresh Meadows? 6th grade Mr. Piana. How about Ryan Junior High PS 216?
I remember more JHS graduates then I do NYU graduates and I was at the latter 6 years.
The memories of George J. Ryan Junior High and Jamaica High graduates are much more vivid, and pleasant, than those of University.
Isn't it strange how little events in school and/or with classmates, can have such an impact on your personal history...and the paths you chose.
I am really looking forward to the 50th reunion. I wish more would attend. :(
Thanks to the organizers for all their efforts.
