Lou Ann 's Story
I've had many different chapters in my life. It certainly hasn't been boring...lots of ups and downs ..and I'm always working on learning from my life lessons. Sometimes that's easier said than done. However,I have a lot of happiness in my life right now, and count my blessings!
Lately I've developed a keen interest in Buddhism and have been researching different Intentional Communities.(Alternative lifestyles have always been appealing to me.)
I presently run a non-profit called Murray Grove Retreat and Renewal Center. It's a peaceful and purposely simple historic Universalist Center located near Forked River,in Ocean County.
We book all kinds of groups and have room for 42-50 overnight guests.
We regularly host congregational retreats(all religions),family reunions, meditation groups,special events,and non-traditional weddings.....so i have the popportunity to meet lots of interesting people. (FYI, Murray Grove is a great place for a Family or High School Reunion ! I'd be happy to share more info if you're interested.)
We've recently started offering monthly coffee houses...Expand for more
, open to the public, featuring local entertainers-that's a lot of fun!
We've also been coordinating monthly "Rainbow Circles", providing a welcoming place for workshops and services for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Communities and their friends.
In the summer we sponsor a lively Drum and Dance Retreat Weekend that really rocks! We offer workshops on African, Brazilian,and Latin Drumming, as well as African Dance and Belly Dance. We have almost 20 acres at Murray Grove and are surrounded by the Pine Barrens. It's a real hoot drumming and dancing around the Firecircle-- hope some of my old friends can join us!
Who cares about our age---Life is too short to be sooo serious all the time !
I love my job! It gives me the opportunity to meet all kinds of interesting people. Operating as a Unitarian Universalist Center, we tend to attract liberal groups and organizations. Therfore, many of our visitors have values in common with mine, so it's personally rewarding.
I'm enjoying life.and try to learn from the challenges.
