Louie's Story
After graduating from AHS, I went on to play football at Pasadena CC, then enlisted in the Army 1972. I served in the Republic of South Korea, then Sierra Army Depot where I was promoted to Sergeant. I was married in 1972 and my daughter, Rebecca Anne Martin, was born in 1973. I graduated from Lassen Community College (Criminal Justice) in 1975. Worked for the Lassen Sheriff's Department in Big Valley & Westwood, until I transferred to Santa Barbara Sheriff in 1976. I became a Field Training Officer/CSI and was on SEB Team II (SWAT). I joined the Sheriff's Dept. Bomb Squad and served on that Team for over 14 years, my last three as Bomb Squad Supervisor. I became a Detec...Expand for more
tive in 1991, then a Detective Sergeant in 1997. I investigated eleven homicides and four officer involved shootings. My last years with SB Sheriff were my most rewarding, with my Patrol Division Squad in Carpinteria. I retired after 33 years of service. I am married to Maria Onate-Martin. Maria grew up in Texas. We have eight grandchildren. We travel often in our 34' RV, and hope to meet up with old friends from AHS on our travels. I had a rocky senior year at Arcadia HS with the loss of my mother, but I do believe that my Army service and law enforcement service definately straightened me out. I look forward to hearing from old friends.
