Lucille's Story
Life
I went to St.Margaret Mary's from the 1st grade through the 5th grade (1949 - 1954). Made my First Communion and Confirmation there. The summer of 1954, my family, father, mother and big sister Joann (she also went to St. Margaret Mary's school and graduated from the 8th grade) moved to Redford Township. I was going into the 6th grade and Joann was in the 10th. Have been a West Sider ever since. I remember that I had a best friend named Donna Patterson. I think she lived by French Road and Connor. And that a friend of the family's son named Lewis (can't remember the last name) also was in my grade. I lived in the quansit huts at Connor and Warren and he lived across the street on Connor in the projects. I saw Lewis once on a local teen dance show that aired in Detroit at one time. Graduatued from Redford Union High School in 1961. Worked for Ford Motor Company for 37 years (retired now). Married my high school sweetheart, had two sons (one has since died as well as my ex-husband). Have lived in Highland, Michigan for the last 31 years. Would never move back to the City.
Would like to hear from anyone who was in my grade at that time. Does anyone remember the bakery that had the most lovely smell coming from it. Or, how about the fun day we had when the whole school would have a day off and we could play games and eat hot dogs. And, can anyone remember the sweet shop (I believe was on Warren) where you could sit and eat ice cream or order a hamburger. Oh to be young again.
