Lucinde's Story
My name was Lucinde Saunders when I attended Asbury Park High School. I have a twin sister named Lucille. I married a wonderful man named David McAfee, who was the son of Mrs. McAfee, the kindergarten teacher at Bangs Ave Grammar School. He was my best friend, lover, boyfriend, husband and my soulmate. He passed away Nov 2000 from kidney and congestive heart failure and was on dialysis waiting for a kidney transplant that never came. He was only 45 years old when he died. I miss him very much. We did not have any children. My father-in-law also died the same year my husband died, 2000. He died in Apr, my beloved David, in Nov. My mother passed away Oct 2004.
When I graduated from APHS, I really didn't feel like going to 4 more years of school nor could I afford it, so I didn't go to college. My sister and I both attended Stuart School of Business Administration. It used to be located on Grand Avenue in Asbury Park in the tall JCP&L Bldg across from NJBell Telephone. st Jul 1972 and I was hired in Dec 1972 as Clerk-Typists.
I currently work in the International Logistics Directorate as an International Logistics/Affairs Foreign Military Sales rep. It's exciting work. I've travelled to Bangkok, Thailand, Garmisch, Germany, Calgary, Canada, and several U.S. states & cities meeting foreign dignitaries and conducting briefings and attending meetings with Commanders of other military organizations. I was "deployed" to Hawaii for one year (Sep 1999-Sep 2000) on a career developmental assignment working at Fort Shafter, with my husband David. I've been at Fort Monmouth for 35 years, and I'm looking forward to retirement to a warmer climate: focussing on Arizona, California, Nevada or Florida. I do not like NJ cold snowy weather, and it is much too expensive to live here. Housing and property taxes are too high.
I currently live with my mother-in-law, Mrs. McAfee, in West Allenhurst, NJ, and we helped each other through the grieving process for both our losses.
Feel free to write me. I look forward to hearing from other APHS Class of 1971 graduates.
Live life to the fullest because Life is too short and tomorrow is not promised.
Take care. Peace
