Luke's Story
Hi all,
I am sure there will be few that remember the face or the name; I was little known on campus. After high school, went to LA Harbor College (while working full time) and completed a two year degree in natural science. I continued working full time while going to college... I finished my bachelors of science degree at CSUDH (1992) with a degree in Production and Operations Management while working full time for a geotechnical engineering firm in Orange County. The firm I was working for was involved with geologic investigation, (e.g. landslides, earthquakes, construction defect investigations, feasibility studies, subsidence investigations and geologic mapping). I continued my education while still working full time, only this time my educational goal was in the field geological sciences. After completing the core courses for a degree in geology, I entered the CSUF graduate program in geological sciences. My thesis is in low temperature thermochronology and examines the rates of tectonic uplift and exhumation of rock units near the San Andreas Fault in Joshua Tree National Park....Expand for more
I left the geotechnical engineering firm in 2003 for a career with the Department of the Interior as a scientist. Currently, I am still working as a scientist for the DOI; set to retire in 2020.
I have been married a few times but it never worked out for me (no children). Some of the fun facts about my life since 1976: 1) I was a hang- glider pilot in the late 70s, 2) I got my pilots license to fly single and multi- engine aircraft in 1981 (Scott Bald and I both became pilots at the same time! Where are you Scott?) , 3) I have been racing motorcycles (mostly desert racing, some MX since the late 70s), 4) I became a scuba diving instructor in 1992, 5) I have been snow-skiing (now snowboarding) since the 1970s, 6) I replaced my ice scares for rollerblades, 7),I still love to surf, 8) Still enjoy rock climbing, 9) I am a professional machinist and certified welder (now mostly involved artwork and metal sculptures), 10) been playing the guitar since the 1970s (love them blues), 10) Still trying to stay physically fit, 11) And I still have all of my hair! :o)
Cheers to all,
Luke Sabala
