Lyle's Story

Life Joined the US Air Force right after Graduation. First assignment was at Offutt AFB in Omaha. Married Brenda Coble of Wichita, KS in 1987 and now have three children: Alexandria, born in 1991 Jennifer, born in 1995 Lucas, born in 1999 Served one tour in Korea, and now live and serve in San Antonio, TX (Lackland AFB) Workplace The majority of my work is in the military, so check there for more info. I have worked part time here and there. I worked for Pizza Hut in Bellevue, Nebraska for a little over four years. I started out in the store on Galvin Rd., then moved over the the store on 36th and hi-way 370, which was really close to my apartment. Here in San Antonio, I worked for a year or so for Kmart as in-store security. It was both interesting and boring. Military I signed up for delayed entry in Nov '84, then headed off to basic training the summer of '85. Basic was (still is) held at Lackland AFB in San Antonio, TX. After six weeks in sunny San Antonio, I was off to Wichita Falls, TX (Sheppard AFB) for technical training as a computer operator. While at Sheppard, I was a member of the Blue Knights Drill Team. I graduated in Jan '86, and ...Expand for more
moved back to Nebraska for an extended (9 1/2 year) tour at Offutt AFB. Offutt AFB was fun for me. Most people complained about being in Nebraska, but I'm from a town about an hour away from the base (Fremont), so I really enjoyed it. I worked the entire time in the same organization (HQ Strategic Air Command until '92, HQ Strategic Command after that). My first two children were born in Nebraska. I was reassigned to South Korea for a one yera tour from Sept '95 until Sept '96. I worked at the 631st Air Mobility Support Squardon. The 631st ran the cargo and air passenger terminals, which means all the people and cargo entering or exiting the Korean penisula via the air went through our unit. I was in charge of the computer room that supported the operations there. I got to see some of the culture, and it was enjoyable other than I was separated from my family. In Sept '96 I cam back to the U.S., picked up my family, and headed back to San Antonio. I was assigned to Kelly AFB, which is now closed. The unit I am work in was reassigned to Lackland AFB, which is right next door. I've been here for a little over 8 years now, and will probably retire from here.
