Lyle's Story

Update: August 2021 I am retired as of July 31. I am planning to do a website with useful health information on medical topic, mental health and nutrition/alternative medicine. Google my name later in the year and see if I've done anything. I may still dabble in medicine as a part-time Medical Director, interim CMO, but not seeing patients, per se. Hope all of you stay healthy. Hi gang. My memory of High School is a bit sketchy so I don't actually remember some of the people in the yearbook. At any rate, my wife and I live in the lovely city of Eugene, where it is green year round and get snow one or two days out of the year. We have been here for 10 years and love the weather. We can always drive the hour east to the mountains for snow or drive the hour west to the coast and see the ocean. I practice medicine doing Family Practice and Psychiatry for PeaceHealth in the rural town of Cottage Grove. I was Medical Director over 24 physicians for a few years, but I gave that up recently since I was working way too much. I have far less stress just seeing patients and trying to comply with all of the darn rules that we must now follow. After High School, I attended Community College at Normandale for two years because it was cheap and I had no idea what I wanted to do. I dropped out of college for a few years and worked for a living in Michigan, but ended back at the University of Minnesota, eventually with a 5-year degree (of sorts) with a double major in Nutrition and Psychology and a minor in Business. I continued on at the U of M for Medical School and then residency at Methodist Hospital. As a resident, I rotated through all of the major hospitals ...Expand for more
in the Twin Cities, including the now defunct Mt. Sani Hospital. I practiced in the Twin Cities area for about 10 years, then moved to Winona for 4 years. We finally decided to leave the Minnesota winters and move to the great NorthWest and have never looked back. Yes, we miss Minnesota and I travel back to visit relatives from time to time, but we like it here in Oregon. Update: 5/28/2020 Still working hard during the pandemic. Left PeaceHealth roughly 3 1/2 years ago to work for NovaHealth. Happy to just be seeing patients again, but son-of-a-gun, they asked me to be Medical Director for Primary Care approximately a year ago. Darn midwest work ethic spoke for me and I have been Medical Director over 22 or so providers and seeing patients. When COVID-19 hit, my workload jumper by 20%.. Our company designated the clinic I am at as a "clean clinic", meaning no COVID symptoms so patients are flocking to see me in person. Doing only 10% telemedicine. Most of my providers are seeing patients in person as we seem to have a clean system in place at all of our clinics. Yes, 12 - 13 hour days, but at least I have a job. Many are not so lucky. I suspect there will be a jump in the Medicaid population for the near future as people loose their jobs and are unable to get health insurance. Stay safe and take your zinc, which improves survival against COVID infection by interfering with RNA replicase. Please no zinc gluconate - it's junk. Aim for zinc picolinate or similar. Add some polyphenol substances, like quericetin, and it will force the zinc into the cells. A side benefit to quercetin is for seasonal allergies. All at your helpful Health Food Store.
