My first "real" job was at Jim's Drive-in Central Point. I worked there for several summers then worked for the Marc Antony hotel in Ashland for two years as a maid, then I went to work for the Red Baron at the Medford Airport as a dishwasher. The best part of that job was making the lunches for the fire jumpers. I moved to Seattle & had a hard time finding work at first (they wanted local references but of couse, since I was out of state I had no local references!). My first job in Washington was as an au pair for a couple in Bellevue. They were a Fortune 500 family that had moved out West. The kids slept on beds that were built in the 1700's. of it as all the antiques in the house had been in their families for years. After that, I went to work for an insurance company in Seattle, stayed there for 2 years then went to work for the University of Washington computer center where I've been ever since. My job is pretty much a glorified paper pusher for the hospital although there is some very technical, very specialized aspects to it. In order to do my job I have to have some knowledge of programming and Burruoughs Work Flow Language. I usually work swing shift, which I like as I can get things done during the day, but I did work the graveyard shift for 8 years when my kids were young. That worked out well as I could volunteer at their schools in the mornings after I got off work.
