Lynda's Story

Life Having passed the half century mark a few years ago now, has not slowed me down. Very active volunteer with Girl Guides and enjoy travelling with the Guides. Went to Europe with them a few years ago and would love to return. They keep me young and active. I keep busy with all my children and my grandsons who were born in April, 2008 and August, 2011. I have been able to reconnect with many of you. Contact me and bring me up to date. Latest Update - well I'm back working after 8 months of not working outside of the home. Love my job and the hours fit. While I was not working I took 13 girls from all over Ontario to Mexico for 2 weeks. Again, another Guiding trip and all my expenses were paid for. Climbed the pyramids and even found time before I left to go back to school and take some Spanish lessons!!! It took me a while to get back into the school and studying thing again. My oldest daughter was married in September'06 and also lives in Burlington. Two oldest boys are working full-time, youngest daughter graduated from University at McMaster and Mohawk College and married in September, 2010. My youngest son finished High School in 2007 and is working part-time. He has not yet decided on his career choice. My Husband is retired but I am continuing to work as I love my job. I have all summers off and all school holidays. I am now a School Crossing Guard which means I must have a death wish!!!! Very impatient drivers in Burlington so have had several near misses. I usually yell some very audible phrase and jump out of the way. I've been lucky so far. Hope to travel this summer out west to visit a former roommate who I haven't seen in 22 years. Recently met up with a former Vanier student and we determined we hadn't seen each other in 37 years!!! Latest Update: So the travelling bug has caught up with me again. In 2010 I went on another Guiding trip..this time to India. We stayed for 2 weeks at the Guiding World Centre in Pune, then traveled to Jaipur, Agra, and New Delhi. I look at this trip as a once in a lifetime experience. I am looked forward to spending an evening with a traditional Indian family and enjoying a meal with them and to just take in as...Expand for more
much as I can of the culture, beauty and diversity of the country. I hope to meet up with other Guiding members from other countries. We always have so much to share when going on trips like this. I will be with 9 other Guiders who have also traveled extensively with Girl Guides. Next task is to find a summer job to help pay for this awesome trip!!! Latest Update: March, 2011 - India was unbelievable!!!! Very hot but with no humidity. Experienced the cultural first hand and spent February 22, 2010 with 400+ Bharat Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts teaching them games and songs. What a wonderful day. My oldest daughter is now expecting in August 2011..another boy. I look forward to this new addition to out family. Youngest daughter was married in September, 2010 and also lives in Burlington. With not working during the summer months, I have now found a job I can do which only lasts 18 days. You can find me at the CNE in the Guest Relations trailer during the time the Ex runs. Love working with the others in the trailer and the work is interesting at best. School Once I left Georges Vanier I entered Toronto Teacher's College and graduated in the year when Bill Davis cut back on education funding thus I had a very hard time securing a teaching job. In August of '71 I went to work at Ontario Hydro thinking I would stay until the next hiring period for teaching. That didn't happen and I stayed at Hydro for 12+ yrs. Latest Update: Was a stay at home Mom for 10+ years but needed to get back into the work force. Started out slowly first at a Tim Horton's for 6 years, then at a Corporate Cafeteria, now for the last 7 years working for the City of Burlington as a School Crossing Guard. I find it takes extreme organization to work the shifts I do and maintain some sort of assemblance at home, but I love working in the outdoors and having summers off. College Although I graduated from Toronto Teachers' College in 1971, I was unable to find employment in the educational field. I never returned to this profession after having worked in the Corporate world, so my teaching certificate expired. However, my current job still involves children, so I guess I have come full circle.

I know it's not a good picture, but I went to see Emilie-Claire Barlow on Friday night at the Sound of Music Festival in Burlington. Her sound is incredible and I loved her playlist
