Lynda's Story
I have been married for 21 years and have 3 grown stepchildren (2 boys, 1 girl), 5 step-grandchildren, and 2 step-great-grandchildren. My "babies" that live with me are a 15-year old Maltese-Holly, a 3-year old Yorkie-Daisy, and a 2-year old Morkie (Yorkie/Maltese mixed)-Lilly, although my husband calls her "Looloo" because she does some really dumb things at times!
I worked at the Centers for Disease Control for 20 years and that is where I met my husband, Cecil. When he retired in 1996, I decided to go back to school and get re-certified to teach Social Studies, specifically Georgia History. I guess you could say that Mr. Brooks (8th grade Ga. History) inspired me to do this, but I didn't think that at the time. I know that I just loved history. I had a Bachelor's Degree in Business Education, but never used it, except for the administrative/lab work I did at CDC. e a lower salary. I tell them I had the teaching bug and had to get it out of my system. I have been teaching middle grades Social Studies for 10 years. I have taught Georgia Studies, but am now teaching 6th grade Geography. I hope to be able to retire in 2013.
Two years ago, I was diagnosed with breast cancer. My mother died in 2003 of breast cancer, as did my cousin in 2006. I was the lucky one. The Lord spared me. I have participated in the Paulding County Relay for Life since my mother died, and have walked for 2 years in the Survivors' Walk. It is a great feeling to be able to walk with all these amazing people.
When my husband and I got married, I moved away from Chamblee to Acworth. Six years later, we moved to Douglasville, and when I got my job at Herschel Jones M.S., Paulding County 7 years later, we moved to Dallas, where we have been for 8 years.
I hope to make it to the Reunion, but if I don't, I would love to hear from some of my classmates and see how ya'll are doing.
