Lynda's Story

Welcome to 2009! It seems like forever since we've been in high school, doesn't it? The almost 39 years since graduation have been good to me. Can't say I'd change anything. Marty and I are still married. We're celebrating our 38th anniversary this July. And some of you said it wouldn't last! LOL! After spending 14 years working for Schwitzer Turbos in Indy, Marty took a job in Michigan with Honeywell/Garrett Turbochargers as an account manager/technical advisor. He's been with them for the last 22 years. He earned his private pilot's license in 1990 and owned/piloted a Beechcraft Bonanza until 2002. I worked for Intel for 10 years as a supervisor of customer service and corporate trainer in Indy and Michigan as well. Now I get to stay home. I teach an aerobics class at the YMCA three days a week and do volunteer work. We have two sons: our eldest, Matthew, is 36, an environmental scientist and lives in Brighton, Michigan with his two girls Olivia (9 yrs) and Sylvia (2 1/2); our second son, Michael, is 34, an oil exploration geologist with Chevron/Texaco and lives in Houston, TX -- he's been married for two years and they don't have any babies yet! Both of the boys must have gotten their brains from their Dad! Our family lived on the southside of Indy until 1987 when we moved to Michigan. We stayed there until Marty was transferred back to Indiana in 1997. We now live in Chesterfield, Indiana, a teeny tiny town with two stop lights, east of Anderson. Castleton Square, the new Hamilton Shops and Keystone at the Crossing are only 25...Expand for more
minutes from home. No matter what anybody says, small town living is great! Other than the fact that everybody knows your business and all of your comings and goings (ha-ha). My Dad died in 1991 and Mom went to spirit in 2007. My sister Sandi died in July, 2005 of lung cancer. Her passing was a devastating blow to me. Not only was she my sister, but my best friend and confidante. My brother Chris lives in Whiteland with his family, brother Kelly lives in Lebanon and my little sister Andee lives in Beech Grove. Marty's Dad and his wife Mary live in Franklin, his Mom, Betty, is suffering from alzheimers and lives in a care facility in Muncie near us. Lou and Cyndi are in Atlanta, GA; Andy and Angela are in San Francisco, CA and Betsy is in Greenwood. They all have their stories, like everyone else! I am both proud and thankful to be a breast cancer survivor. Diagnosed in 1995, I went through the surgery and treatment (slash/burn/and poison) and have been cancer free since 1997. Having a life-threatening disease sure made me realize what is and isn't important in life. Believe me, most of it isn't! High school was a great time for me. I have memories of all the dances, wearing the huge homecoming yellow mums with a royal blue "G" in the middle, sock hops, Comiskey's drug store, basketball and football games, GAA, Student Council and most of all my buddies. I remember that in order to be cool, the girls had to wear Bass Tie Weeguns and the boys had to tuck in their sweater vests. All in all it was a good four years. Life is Good.
