Lyndon's Story
After graduation, I joined the Air Force to get my military obligation behind me, thus preventing any draft notice while attending college at the time; Vietnam was gaining momentum. During my 4-year obligation: the 1st year was 3 months in bootcamp and 9 months in tech school training to be a communication tech; the 2nd year was at Bunker Hill AFB, Indiana; the 3rd year was 9 months in Vietnam at Cam Rahn Bay on the South China Sea and 3 months in Saigon at Tan Son Nhut AFB; finally, my last year ...Expand for more
was in Springfield, Mass. at Westover AFB. That was in June of '68.
Came back to Oakland, went back to work at Lucky's grocery store in the lake Merritt shopping center, which was where I worked while in my junior and senior years at OHS. This was my opportunity to sustain myself during the summer and through my 2 years ('68 to '70) at Oakland City College, Laney campus, with an AS degree in Electronics. This later became my stepping stone to SF State for a BS in Engineering (major in electrical).
