Lynetta's Story
Arrived back here end of October, 2009 - Just in time for winter. Loving my return to MI and combining my love of food and compulsive cooking with farming - my farm is named "Forgotten Flavors Farm" and that says it all. Raised 50 chicks and 50 guinea fowl summer of 2011 as my trial batches, hope to raise 400 of each this coming summer (2012) plus 2-3 pigs, which will be finished on apples. Following permaculture and soil biology/nurturing practices, restoring health to the soil here. Unexpectedly had a small apple crop last fall - unexpected because they stopped bearing some years before I bought the place and, according to the extension, I'm doing everything wrong. I rely on compost teas plus raw milk and mineral sprays to improve the health of the soil, no herbicides/pesticides/fungicides. If the biological cycle flows as expected, will have lots of apples but not yet good eating quality this coming summer - but the pigs will make good use of them before I send the oinkers off to "Freezer Camp...Expand for more
." Will be interesting...
Am planning a "chicken tasting" for foodie's spring of 2012, to compare 6 month old roosters raised exclusively on pasture/GMO free grains, with those fed the special "Bresse Chicken diet" for their final 3-4 weeks. If you know me and you're a foodie, get in touch and I'll send you an invite!

living in SF since 1976; I'm a: kayaker/cook/avid reader/ writer/ dreamer/gardener - back in school AGAIN - and nearing completion of an MLA (ahhh, Liberal Arts - the delight of job counselors, NOT!) this time. So nothing much has changed except trading the canoe in on a kayak, and acquiring a day job. oops... other change, I guess, is that I stopped doing theater...
where does the time go?
Will be taking early retirement soon - 2009?
update (March 09): just bought 10 acre farm near family in Bloomingdale, transplanting myself back to MI in early summer. Look forward to gardening, kayaking, writing, conservation activities. The beginnings of a new adventure!
