Lynn's Story
Life
Memories!
I wed my dear Edward Davidson (Phew! Just 2 ½ months before my 40th birthday!) and we came here to Victoria, BC in Â93 to start what is now Binners B&B. Quite a leap from the Âold days in Brampton and Bramalea.
We enjoy lots of wonderful guests, from many amazing faraway places. Most of our business comes from our website, from the one by our association (WCBBIA) and from the one at TripAdvisor. Let's hear it for technology.
It all started after Bob Weir and I hitched across Canada in early spring of Â68 to the magnificent west coast of Vancouver Island. Then Bill Camplin and I hitched around the N. E. states in the summer of Â69 . In July at a transplanted school palÂs home in Boston (ohboy! a shower and a real bed!), we watched, along with the whole world, Apollo 11Âs moon landing.
And, I shudder to admit that, even though we were right Âin the neighbourhood we chose NOT to go to the heavily advertised Woodstock!
We passed up a moment in our eraÂs history! But weÂd been to many such festivals and assumed this oneÂd be like the others ... too hot, too many drugs, not enough food, water or toilettes, and same old stars.
Besides, a Âglamorous TV actor in a ...Expand for more
red convertible offered us a ride to New York City! Who could say, ÂNoÂ!? And IÂm STILL of that groupie mentality!
ThatÂs not so cool to admit at my age. E.g., when the Queen and her guys came to Victoria for the Â94 Commonwealth Games, I was in the Park, during her walk-about in the crowds, elbowing and kicking my way up front, almost fainting with excitement. Why, I even caught her eye at one point! Hah! ÂSmall things Â
Â, you say!
While still in Toronto, Edward and IÂd lived in condos in the Jane / Eglinton area, then houses up in Thornhill and Richmond Hill before deciding to move here to start a B&B.
After a Sheridan B&B course, we bought a central Victoria condo in Â92 to use as a Âbase of operations to live in and find an ideal B&B to buy.
After much research, we bought a 4 room bungalow in a lovely, seaside neighbourhood, Fairfield, a half block from the ocean, and planned the big renovation.
We worked on the plans for a year with our architects and City Hall, then moved out of the house for 10 months while it was torn apart, totally re-plumbed and rewired and a second storey added.
And voila, here we are! Bored yet?
